China hopes to create a "mini biosphere" on the dark side of the Moon, with flowers and silkworms sustaining each other as they grow on the lifeless lunar surface. 

中国希望在月球背面打造一个"微型生态圈"，让花和蚕"相依为命"，在没有生命的月球表面生长。

The unprecedented plan to create life in outer space is the most intriguing part of China's lunar probe mission set to begin later this year, and could be a major boost for the dream that humans will one day live on the Moon. 

这项史无前例的外太空生命培育计划是中国今年年底探月任务中最引人入胜的一部分，或将大力推进人类在月球居住梦想的实现。

Astronauts have previously grown plants in the International Space Station, while Chinese "taikonauts" grew rice and arabidopsis (拟南芥) in China's Tiangong-2 space lab. But those experiments were conducted in low-Earth orbit at an altitude of about 400 kilometers.

此前，航天员曾在国际空间站种过植物，而中国的航天员也曾在天宫二号空间实验室里培养过水稻和拟南芥。但那些实验都是在离地面约400公里的近地轨道中进行的。

One person was killed and seven others were injured Tuesday after a Southwest Airlines plane engine apparently exploded in midair. Flight 1380, which was headed from LaGuardia Airport in New York City to Dallas' Love Field, made an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport around 11:20 am.

美国西南航空公司一架客机的引擎在空中发生爆炸，造成1人死亡，7人受伤。出事的1380航班原计划由纽约市拉瓜迪亚机场飞往(德克萨斯州)达拉斯拉夫菲尔德机场，11点20分左右该航班紧急迫降(宾夕法尼亚州)费城国际机场。

A female passenger was "partially sucked out" of the Boeing 737's window, causing fatal blunt force trauma, when the engine exploded and shrapnel from the engine smashed a window, US media reported. It was the first passenger fatality on a US airline since 2009, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.

A police investigation is underway after four masked men broke into a museum in the city of Bath in Southwest England and stole more than 40 Chinese artifacts including jade, ceramics and gold pieces. 

四名蒙面男子闯入英国西南部巴斯市的一座博物馆并偷走了超过40件中国文物，包括玉器，瓷器和黄金制品，警方正在进行调查。

Officers said they believe the thieves targeted the Museum of East Asian Art on Bennett Street and items could have been "stolen to order". They said witnesses reported four masked men breaking into the first-floor window of the building at around 1:20 am on Tuesday, and making off in a dark-colored SUV. 

警方认为这些小偷看准了班尼特街上的东亚艺术博物馆，有计划地实施了本次文物偷盗。警方称，有目击者称看到四名蒙面男子在17日凌晨1时20分左右从博物馆一楼破窗而入实施盗窃，随后乘坐一辆深色SUV离开。

"We are deeply shocked and saddened by the burglary," the museum's curator said. "Not only do the stolen objects have significant historical and cultural value, they also hold irreplaceable emotional value for our founder." Investigations are still underway, as officers make door-to-door inquiries and look through security camera footage.

A source told a publication Kate's hospital bag is packed with various good luck talismans, including a 19th-century alabaster cameo pendant (雪花石浮雕吊坠) from the queen and her mother's black onyx beads (黑玛瑙串).
