Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates said he'll pick up the tab for all US college graduates to download a copy of Hans Rosling's book, "Factfulness: Ten Reasons We're Wrong About the World - and Why Things Are Better Than You Think". 
微软联合创始人比尔•盖茨近日表示，美国所有的大学毕业生都可以免费下载汉斯•罗斯林的书《事实真相：我们错误看待世界的10个理由，以及为什么事情比你想象的要好》，费用由他来支付。

The book was released in April, offering advice on how to think about the world and how personal instincts can impact our interpretation of information.

It debuted at No 5 on the New York Times Best Seller List for hardcover nonfiction. It is the book Gates thinks every college graduate should read.

In a YouTube video posted in April, Gates called it "one of the most educational books I've ever read."

A worldwide design campaign aimed at finding a proper emoji to represent an earthquake has recently caught the attention of social media users. 

近日，一项旨在寻找象征地震的合适表情的全球性设计活动引起社交媒体用户的关注。

A group of scientists initiated the campaign in a bid to use "the world's fastest-developing language" to help better spread earthquake information and make a difference during an emergency. Seismologists at the University of Southampton, together with seven other researchers from the US, France and Costa Rica, advertised the campaign on social media platforms including Twitter. Designs should be submitted by July 14.

为用"世界上发展最快的语言"更好地传播地震信息，能在紧急情况下产生更大的作用。南安普敦大学的地震学家和来自美国、法国、哥斯达黎加的另外7名研究人员发起了这项活动。这些科学家在推特等社交媒体平台上宣传这项活动，设计作品须在2018年7月14日前提交。

A final shortlist of four emoji designs will be judged by the eight scientists based on four criteria "evocative, simple, universal and distinctive." The shortlist will be posted on Twitter so netizens can vote for a winner.

Young women are more likely to leave in search of jobs and partners, while the men are expected to stay and inherit family farms and businesses, leaving them with little prospect of marrying and having children. In the past decade, the number of residents has fallen from 3,734 to 2,795, including fewer than 180 children of primary and middle school age.

According to the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research, its population will fall to just over 900 by 2060 if current demographic trends persist.

As Italy struggles to deal with burgeoning populations of an introduced giant rodent, a mayor has come up with a novel solution – eat them. Coypu were introduced to Italy a century ago from their native South America to be farmed for their fur. 

从国外引进的一种体型较大的啮齿动物河狸鼠泛滥成灾，意大利正疲于应对，而此时一名市长想出了一个新的解决办法，那就是，吃掉它们。一个世纪前，意大利从南美洲引进河狸鼠用于养殖，以获取其皮毛。

But many escaped or were deliberately released after wearing fur fell out of fashion and the species is now thriving. They have fared particularly well in the flatlands of the Po valley in northern Italy, where farmers complain that they devour crops and destroy levees and embankments by digging burrows.
