The Little Mermaid


Brief Introduction:


爱丽儿是一条生活在大海中的小美人鱼，她活泼可爱，又充满好奇心，总是喜欢探索新鲜事物。有一天，她突发奇想，想离开海底，到海面上看看陆地上的世界。当她终于浮出海面的时候，正巧看到了出海航行的亚力克王子。爱丽儿一下子就被王子帅气的面庞深深地吸引住了。从此，爱丽儿的世界也将发生翻天覆地的改变……


Chapter 1


Dark gray clouds filled the vast (广阔的) sky as a large wooden ship plowed (破浪前进) through the rough (汹涌的) ocean. The bow (船首) featured a mermaid (美人鱼) figurehead (装饰船头的人像), and three massive (巨大的) sails stretched (伸展) high above the deck (甲板). Waves crashed against the hull (船体), but the strong winds and the boat’s sheer (完全的) power sent it gliding (滑行) through the mighty sea.


Three sailors wearing tattered (破烂的) striped (条纹的) shirts and bandanas (头巾) atop their heads pulled a huge net aboard. The net was overflowing (充满) with fish. As the sailors worked, they sang songs and told tales (传说) about mermaids living deep in the seas.


Prince Eric (亚力克) stood at the fore (前面的) rail (栏杆) of the ship. His black hair and white collared (有领子的) shirt blew in the wind. He leaned over (倾身) the railing, smiling from ear to ear (面带笑容), with his beloved dog, Max (麦克斯) beside him. Like his owner, the large, shaggy (毛发蓬松的) white and gray dog enjoyed every second on the ship. His pink tongue flapped (上下摆动) and his black nose wriggled (扭动).


“Isn’t this great?” said Eric with a sigh (感叹). “The salty (咸的) sea air, the wind blowing in your face… perfect day to be at sea!”


Eric turned to his most trusted servant (仆人), Grimsby (吉姆). Poor Grimsby was feeling the effects of the bumpy (颠簸的) ride. He was very seasick (晕船的). He hung over the side of the boat, green with nausea (恶心), trying to avoid soiling (弄脏) his long black coat and purple ruffled (有褶饰边的) collar. But the ever-proper (永远都行为得体的) and loyal servant managed to respond to his exuberant (兴高采烈的) superior (指主人).


“Um…yes, delightful (令人愉快的),” replied Grimsby.


“A fine strong wind and a following (顺风的) sea,” began a sailor, tying down a sail (系好帆). “King Triton (川顿) must be in a friendly-type mood.”


“King Triton?” asked Prince Eric curiously, joining in the work.


“Why, ruler of the merpeople (人鱼王国), lad (小伙子),” added another sailor, tossing (投) fish into barrels. “Thought every good sailor knew about him.”


Grimsby managed to pull himself away from the railing and stumble (跌跌撞撞地走) toward Eric.


“Merpeople!” he exclaimed (大叫), holding his sensitive (敏感的) stomach. “Eric, pay no attention to this nautical (海上的) nonsense (胡说).”


“But it ain’t nonsense,” replied the sailor, waving a fish in his hand as he walked toward Grimsby. “It’s the truth! I’m telling you, down in the depths of (在…的深处) the ocean they live—”


The sailor’s tale was interrupted by (被…打断) the flapping fish. It slipped out of (从…中滑出) the sailor’s hand and smacked (拍) its tail across the man’s face, then flew through the air and over the rail.


The frightened fish splashed into (溅入) the water and swam as fast as it could, leaving a trail (痕迹) of bubbles. When it was safely away from the ship, the little fish stopped swimming, looked back up at the surface, and sighed with relief (松了口气). It was free, and it was home.
