Is the Wise Owl Wise?

聪明的猫头鹰真的聪明吗？

This is a story about an Owl,

这个故事关于一只猫头鹰

who looked very wise and looked very clever.

它看起来非常智慧，非常聪明

This Owl hunted for his food at night.

这只猫头鹰在夜晚捕食

In the day, he slept on the best branch of his tree.

白天，他则在他那根最好的树枝上睡觉

Owl did not shut his eyes.

猫头鹰的眼睛没有闭上

He kept them open just a little bit.

他把眼睛睁开一点点

It made him look very clever.

这让他开起来非常聪明

The animals in the forest saw him and said,

树林里的动物们看到他都会说

“He looks so wise.

“他看起来太智慧了

He looks so clever.”

他看起来太聪明了。”

There was a pond in the forest

在树林里有一个池塘

and in the pond lived many frogs.

池塘里住着很多只青蛙

One summer it didn’t rain.

一个夏天，一直都没有下雨

All the water in the pond dried up.

池塘的水都干涸了

The frogs got very hot.

青蛙们非常热

“What shall we do?” they said.

“我们要怎么办？”他们说

“Let us go and ask Owl.

“让我们去问问猫头鹰吧

He’ll tell us what to do.

他会告诉我们做什么

He looks so wise.

他看起来很有智慧

He looks so clever.”

他看起来非常聪明。”

The frogs told Owl about the pond.

青蛙告诉猫头鹰池塘的事

“What shall we do?” asked the frogs.

“我们要做什么呢”青蛙问

“What do you think you should do?” hooted Owl.

“你们认为你们该做什么？”猫头鹰大声问道

“We think that we should hide under big, cold stones and wait for the rain,” said the frogs.

“我们认为我们应该藏在巨大、寒冷的石头底下，然后等着下雨”青蛙说

“Then do it, do it, do,” said Owl.

“那就去做吧，去做吧，做”猫头鹰说

So the frogs hid under big, cold stones and waited for the rain.

于是青蛙们藏在了巨大寒冷的石头底下，然后等着下雨

When the rain came, the pond filled with water and the frogs were happy again.

当下雨的时候，池塘里积满了水，青蛙们又高兴起来了

In the autumn, it got cold.

秋天来了，天气变冷了

Some of the birds were cold and hungry.

一些鸟儿们又冷又饿

“What shall we do?” asked the birds.

“我们要怎么办？”鸟儿们问

“Let us go and ask Owl.

“让我们去问问猫头鹰

He’ll tell us what to do.

他会告诉我们做什么

He looks so wise.

他看起来太有智慧了

He looks so clever.”

他看起来太聪明了。”

So they went and asked Owl.

于是他们去问猫头鹰

“What do you think you should do?” hooted Owl.

“你们认为你们该做什么？”猫头鹰大声问道

“We think we should fly away,

我们认为我们应该飞走

to where the sun shines every day,” said the birds.

去每天都有阳光照耀的地方，”鸟儿们说

“Then do it, do it, do,” said Owl.

“那就去做吧，去做吧，做”猫头鹰说

So they flew away, to where the sun shines every day.

于是他们飞走了，去了每天都有阳光照耀的地方

The birds were happy again.

鸟儿们又开心了

When winter came to the forest, it began to snow.

当树林里冬天到来，开始下雪了

The snow covered some of the animals.

雪盖住了一些动物

They were very cold.

他们非常冷

“What shall we do?” they asked.

“我们要做什么呢？”他们问

“Let us go and ask Owl.

让我们去问猫头鹰

He’ll tell us what to do.

他会告诉我们做什么

He looks so wise.

他看起来太有智慧了

He looks so clever.”

他看起来太聪明了。”

So they went and asked Owl.

于是他们去问猫头鹰

“What do you think you should do?” hooted Owl.

“你们认为你们该做什么？”猫头鹰大声问道

“We think that we should sleep until spring,” said the squirrels and the badgers.

“我们认为我们应该睡到春天到来”松鼠和獾们回答

“We think that we should put on warm winter coats,” said the foxes and the rabbits.

“我们认为我们应该穿上温暖的冬衣”狐狸和兔子回答

“We think that we should keep each other warm,” said the little birds.

“我们认为我们应该互相取暖”小鸟们回答

“We think that we should keep a hole open in the ice,” said the ducks.

“我们认为我们应该在冰面开一个洞”鸭子们回答

“Then do it, do it, do,” said Owl.

“那就去做吧，去做吧，做”猫头鹰说

So the squirrels and the badgers slept until spring.

于是松鼠和獾们睡到了春天

The foxes and the rabbits grew warm winter coats.

狐狸和兔子们穿上了温暖的冬衣

The little birds found a hole in a tree and kept each other warm.

小鸟们在树上找了一个洞，然后互相取暖

The ducks took turns sitting on a hole in the ice,

鸭子轮坐在冰面的洞口

so they could get to their food.

以便能找到食物

The animals were all happy.

动物们都很开心

“Owl is so wise.

“猫头鹰太智慧了

Owl is so clever,” they said.

猫头鹰太聪明了”他们说

“He told us what to do and he was right!”

“他告诉我们该做什么，而且他是对的！”

Owl hadn’t really told them anything.

猫头鹰其实什么都没告诉他们

Owl was not really wise.

猫头鹰并不是真的智慧

Owl was not really clever.

猫头鹰并不是真的聪明

Owl was asleep.

猫头鹰睡着了

He sat on the best branch of his tree and dreamed he was catching mice.

他坐在他最好的树枝上，梦到自己在捉老鼠。
