A floating restaurant that was a famous Hong Kong landmark has sunk, days after it was towed away from the harbour where it operated for nearly 50 years.
The restaurant closed in March 2020 as the Covid-19 pandemic hit. More than 3 million guests are believed to have eaten its Cantonese cuisine over the years, including Queen Elizabeth II, Tom Cruise and Richard Branson.
It had featured in several films - including a Bond movie - but the pandemic dealt the business a fatal blow as diners turned away.

Have you heard the news? Hong Kong’s famous landmark floating restaurant Jumbo has sunk. It’s been days after it was towed away from the harbour. It’s been operated there for nearly 50 years.
But sadly it closed in March 2020 because of the Covid-19. There’re more than 3 million guests who are believed to have eaten its Cantonese cuisine over the years, like Queen Elizabeth II, Tom Cruise and Richard Branson.
Maybe you don’t have a clear idea of Jumbo but it actually popped up in a lot of scenes in arcade games like Street Fighter, in films like The God of Cookery. Also it had featured in films like Bond series. Those are memories deeply rooted in millennials.
But the pandemic dealt the business a fatal blow and diners turned away. What a pity！
