The prestigious Yale University has expelled a student whose parents paid more than a million dollars in bribes to get her in, the first such move since a huge admissions scandal erupted earlier this month. 

著名高校耶鲁大学近日开除了一名学生，该学生的父母为使其进入这所高校，行贿100多万美元。耶鲁大学成为自本月初美国大规模招生舞弊丑闻曝光以来首所采取此类行动的学校。

Some 50 people have been indicted so far in a scam to help children of the American elite gain entry into top US colleges. In a statement published on its website on Tuesday, Yale said Rudy Meredith, former Yale women's head soccer coach, provided fraudulent athletic recommendations to the applicant.

The student's relatives paid $1.2 million in bribes, and the coach received $400,000 from a go-between who organized the arrangement. "Yale investigated the allegations, and the admission of the student who received a fraudulent endorsement has been rescinded," the university said.

Flight lands in wrong city

A British Airways flight destined for Dusseldorf in Germany landed in Edinburgh by mistake, after the flight paperwork was submitted incorrectly. The passengers only realized the error when the plane landed and the "welcome to Edinburgh" announcement was made.

The plane, which started at London's City Airport, was then redirected and landed in Dusseldorf. Sophie Cooke, a 24-year-old management consultant, travels from London to Dusseldorf each week for work. She said when the pilot first made the announcement that the plane was about to land in Edinburgh everyone assumed it was a joke.

She asked the cabin crew if they were serious. The pilot then asked passengers to raise their hands if they wanted to go to Dusseldorf. Everyone raised their hands.

MPs OK Brexit date change

British lawmakers on Wednesday overwhelmingly voted to change original Brexit departure date in law to April 12 or May 22 as British Prime Minister Theresa May was in an 11 hour appeal to Tory MPs to back her Withdrawal Agreement. 

英国议员27日以压倒性的票数表决通过将原先英国脱欧的法律日期变更为4月12日或5月22日的动议，英国首相特雷莎•梅梅仍在为使保守党议员支持她的脱欧协议做最后的努力。

MPs voted 441 to 105 in the House of Commons to bring the new Brexit date into law and remove the original plan for Britain to leave the European Union (EU) on March 29. MPs also voted 160 to 400 to reject to leave the EU with no deal on April 12, and voted 268-295 to reject the proposal to hold a fresh referendum on Brexit. 

议员在下议院以441票对105票投票通过将新的英国脱欧日期写入法律，并取消了该国原定于本月29日的脱欧计划。议员还分别以160票对400票、268票对295票的结果否决了4月12日无协议脱欧以及举行新的脱欧公投的动议。

Earlier Wednesday, May told MPs that she will quit as prime minister if the British parliament backs her Brexit plan, which was rejected twice by MPs since January. The prime minister did not set a firm date for her departure from the post, but her announcement sets the stage for a Conservative leadership election within the coming weeks or months.

Perfume costs over $1M

An Emirati perfumery claims it has created the most expensive perfume in the world. Called Shamukh, the perfume priced at a nostril-flaring $1,295,000 for three milliliters. Its makers say it's the product of three years of research and 494 perfume trials. The scent is a combination of amber, sandalwood, musk, Indian agarwood, Turkish rose, patchouli, ylang-ylang and frankincense estimated to last 12 hours.

It comes in an Italian Murano crystal bottle, which is adorned with a gold falcon, Arabian horses, roses and a globe, contains 3,571 diamonds - 38.55 carats in total - giant pearls, 2.5 kg of 18-karat gold and 5.9 kg of pure silver. What's more, the bottle sits on a cushioned leather stand nearly two meters tall.
