(A little girl): How doI think of New Year Resolutions?

I have problemswith New Year’s resolutions, not because they often fail or because they’re toodifficult and not because I am bad with them either. I mean, I’ve only been alivefor four New Year’s! No, I have problems with resolutions because people thinkthat: that’s it. It’s the one time to change. Now don’t get me wrong. Wedefinitely all need changes. I have no idea how to ride a bicycle and my littlebrother has no idea what a toilet is for. And some of you, yeah, you shouldprobably get out of the house more.

But one bigdecision probably isn’t going to do it. Sorry! So now what? Flush yourresolutions down the toilet? The one my little brother can’t use? Of coursenot. Keep your resolutions but go easy on yourself. Will you change? Maybe, butit probably won’t happen in one big moment.

It’ll happen inthousands of little moments. Everytime you choose to forgive or slow down or be grateful or stay calm. Eachlittle moment that you choose what’sright instead of what’s easy; faith insteadof doubt; love instead of hate, that’s where the change happens! Even if you fail one or two or thirty times, it’s ok! You’ve got thousands ofmore little moments ahead of you. You’ll get better. So happy New Year. Godbless! And I’m off to ask my dad to get a bike. Either that or a pony. Bye.

Obama: The most important thing we can all do is to treat each other with kindness andrespect. Right, so kids, they can learn right away when, you know, inthe school, on the playground, to be nice to each other. And if you see a kid’sbeen picked on you make sure you stand up for him. And you treat everybody fairly,no matter what they look like and where they are from. And if you startlearning to do that as a kid, everybody respect for each other and nice to eachother, then when they grow up they’ll be doing the same thing. And we’ll havefewer problems. What do you think?
