Movie Review: Ford V Ferarri 极速车王


Retells the real-life story of former Le Mans winner, Caroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and race driver, Ken Miles (Christian Bale) as they attempt to help the Ford motor company win the 24-hour race at Le Mans in 1966.


Directed by James Mangold, this film has a mixture of exhilarating car action combined with some very sentimental drama. Focusing largely on the relationship between Shelby and Miles, the real highlights are the scenes between Miles and his son as he explains the feeling he has when driving. 


Bale gives the stand out performance with his very British accent and his unassuming nature. Damon has many delightful moments but is often weighed down by his character’s interactions with the upper management of Ford. It’s easy to see how well they get along in the movie. Their chemistry is very good and just makes the film all the more special.


A lot of people have described this film as the ultimate “dad” film and I can easily see why. Fast cars and spending time with their sons seems like the right combo. I thoroughly enjoyed it but I think I enjoyed it best for all the moments in scenes where things are implied and sorted without a need for further explanation. You don’t need copious amounts of dialogue to get to the heart of the matter with this film. Mangold does a great job of capturing every moment like a Kodak moment.


An exhilarating ride you will want to watch again and again.
