My mother could grow anything from a seed.

我的妈妈能够让任何种子生长。

She would take tiny seeds with her fingertips, place them in soil and coax them to grow. She would carefully water the soil and whisper, "You’re going to love the sunshine. You’re going to feel the rain and you are really going to love the rainbow!"
她用指尖拾起微小的种子,将它们放入土中,温言软语地哄着它们生长。她一边细心浇水,一边小声说道:"你将拥抱阳光,你将感受雨露,你将热爱彩虹！"

I watched this mysterious woman and wondered at the love she gave to each tiny seed. It was as if she poured the love that she had been longing for into the seed and soil. She pulled grace and beauty from the depths, and the little plants would burst forth, reaching for light and air.

She seldom bought pot plants. She mixed her own soil and she planted her seeds in any container available. To her, anything that had a bottom and an open top was a container.

I loved to watch my mother’s face, as those first tiny seeds raised their heads to smile at her. She would often tell me her secrets on how she made things grow. I never told her just how beautiful she was at those moments, with her face brightened with understanding and knowledge.
