Russell the sheep lived in FrogsbottomField.
小羊罗素住在青蛙底村。
At the end of a long busy day… night fell and the sheep got ready for bed.
忙了一天之后，天色变暗，羊羊们准备睡觉了。
Soon all was quiet. Except for…Russell.
一切都安静下来。除了小羊罗素。
No matter how hard he tried, Russell could not fall asleep.
不管用什么办法，Russell 就是睡不着。
“Maybe if it were really dark,” he thought, “I’d be able to sleep.”
他想，“也许天还不够黑，天够黑我就睡着了。”
But the really dark really scared him.
可是天真的黑了，他又怕。
“Perhaps I’m too hot,” he thought.
他觉得“也许我太热了，”
“Perhaps I’m not.”
“也许没那么热”
Russell pulled up a pillow…but the pillow hopped away… hopping mad!
他从田里拽出一只青蛙当枕头，青蛙才不理他，怒气冲冲地跳走了！
“Maybe I need a better place to sleep,” he decided, and went for awalk.
“也许呢，我得找个更好的地方试一试，”于是他决定出去散步。
Russell spied the boot of the rusty car.
他找到了一个生锈的汽车行李箱。
It was too cramped!
它太狭窄了！
He tried the hollow of a tree.
他找到了一棵大树的树洞。
That was too creepy!
太吓人了！
Russell even sleeping on a branch.
小羊罗素还是睡在树枝上。
But it was too crowded!
可树枝上实在太挤了！
WHAT’S A SHEEP TO DO?
小羊罗素会怎么做呢？
Russell thought he would never get to sleep.
他觉得这辈子都睡不着啦！
But then he had a brilliant idea.
但就在这时，他有了一个好主意。
What if he tried to count things? That would make him fall asleep.
也许他应该数点东西，就可以让他很快入睡了。
Russell counted his feet.
那就数数他的脚吧！
One… two… three… four. Not tired.
1,2,3,4.数完了，没睡着。
“Hmmmm. I guess I need more feet,” he decided
他想“我需要多长几只脚”
“What next?”
那接下要数什么呢？
The stars! Russell counted each and everyone.
星星！罗素数满天的星星，一个不落。
One…two…three…four…five…six hundred million billion and ten.
1 2 3 4 5 一直数到六百、六百万、六十个亿零1234…
And Russell was wide awake!
可罗素数到现在仍然很清醒！
He counted them again! Six hundred million billion and ten.And still wide awake!
他又数了一遍！眼睛还是睁的大大的，醒着！
Russell thought very hard.
罗素想啊想，想破了脑袋。
In fact, he thought so hard. His hat went to ziggy-zaggy!
他的帽子都想歪了，想成了锯齿状！
“I know” he shouted, “I’ll count sheep.”
他大叫道，“我知道啦，我去数羊！
One…two…three…four…five…six…seven…eight…nine…
一二三四五六七八九……
“Still awake,” he said and sighed.”
哎，他叹气道，“怎么还醒着呢。”
Then Russell realized he had forgotten to count one very important little sheep…himself!
然后罗素突然意识到，他忘记数自己了，没错他应该把自己也数进去。
“one two three four five six seven eight nine….” “Ten!”
“一 二 三 四 五 六 七 八 九……” “十！”
Russell felt a tickle, then a twitch, and then… … sound asleep.
罗素看到瞌睡虫来了，挠了他一下，又挠了他一下，然后沉沉的睡了。
By now it was morning, and all the other sheep in the field began getting ready for the new day.
现在天亮了，村里的其他羊准备开始新的一天。
Soon everyone was up. Everyone that is, except for …Russell.
不久，所有人都忙碌起来，只有罗素还在沉沉沉沉的睡着。
