A friend of mine told me that he plans on going to the gym. I asked him why, and he said “I want to build muscle and to this and that and blah blah blah”. A bunch of different reasons. He wasn’t too sure if I understood what he meant. So he asked me: “do you understand me”? Now,think- how would you feel if someone asked you that. It’s as if they were saying:你不能理解是因为你理解能力有问题。so, I，myself would not say it like that. If I wanted to ask someone: 你懂我意思吗？, I would say: "Did that make sense?" Because this way it’s as if I were saying: “我解释得不太清楚，这个可能导致你理解有问题”. As you can see, it’s a lot more polite this way. Also, if you are explaining something to someone,the way a teacher is explaining something to students, and you are not just giving them some information,you can also use: “Was that clear?”.Clear 代表清楚；在这里我们不只要对方懂，我们要他们深度地理解。
