同学们，朋友们，大家好！我是张翔。今天我要讲的词根spec其实就是词根spect的变种，也是“看”的意思，以及要学的非常常用的高频词根词“special”,之前我给同学们讲的都是核心动词，今天我要给大家讲解一个非常实用的形容词special。另外，我还是要强调：学单词的目的就是为了口语交流和表达，否则学了没用，不用也就记不住！我在本专辑课程中单词讲解中穿插英语思维表达和口语交流方法，今天呢？我会延续上一课里的对话原理，进一步解析如何用英语单词讲故事的诀窍！和朋友们、家人们一起分享、共同成长！

词根记忆顺口溜：

see和look对上眼儿，

Spec也来凑热闹儿，

你看我来我看你，

三个兄弟很特别！

下面我们来学see和look的新的用法：

see someone’s point明白某人的观点

Ok，I see your point.

好的，我明白你的观点。

look up好转，改善

At last things were beginning to look up.

最终情况开始好转了。

special 英['speʃl] 美[ˈspɛʃəl]

词根spec=spect，看，ial形容词后缀，看起来不一般的，特别的，特殊的

adj. 特殊的; 专门的; 专用的; 重要的; n. 专车; 特价; 特刊; 特约稿;

Some of the officials have special privileges.

有些官员享受特权。

请复述：Some scandals were exposed that some of the officials had special privileges.

很多丑闻揭示有些官员享有特权。

Don’t lose it. It’s special.

别丢了。这不是一般的东西。

请复述：He advised me not to lose that special thing.

他告诫我别丢了那个特殊的东西。

He’s my special friend.

他是我特别要好的朋友。

请复述：I told them that he’s my special friend.

我告诉他们他是我非常要好的朋友。

These teachers need special training.

这些老师需要专门培训。

He stresses that those teachers need special training.

他强调说这些老师需要专门培训。

Please take special care of it.

specialize 专攻

Many students specialize in software engineering. 许多学生专攻软件工程学。

specification n 规格

Can you give me a price list with specification?

你能否给我一份有规格说明的价目单吗？

英语和汉语在讲故事上表达的语序区别不大，都是按照时间先后和事情发展的情节逻辑顺序展开，我在这里要解析的是通用的语言表达技巧。比如上一课所讲的目标、反应、解释、决定四段论同样完全适用于展开故事叙述。

比如下面这个故事：

Little Miss Muffet

Sat on a tuffet，

Eating her curds and whey;

Along came a spider，

Who sat down beside her

And frightened Miss Muffet away.

小小淑女玛菲特，

端着盘子土堆坐，

吃着乳酪看风景；

不料蜘蛛从天降，

想来身旁坐一坐，

吓跑淑女玛菲特！

关于上面的故事，我想请同学们做几个四段论提问：

“Little Miss Muttet”简短的对话，如下：

“What words don’t you understand?” (tuffet, curds and whey, which I explained)

“Who have the characters?” (Little Miss Muffet, the spider)

“What happened first? Then … Then… ?”

“What did Miss Muffet do when she was frightened?”

现在，我想帮助同学们迅速掌握用英语讲故事的技巧，一个非常简单实用的技巧！也是上述四段论的特例，就是SWBST Format公式：

Somebody wanted but so then

某人，想干什么，但是，所以，结果

我们今天先按这个公式讲一个故事，以后课程会大量用我们所学的单词来讲各种精彩的故事吧！

比如：

讲故事SWBST

A little boy
Wanted - to fly a kite
But - his kite was broken
So - he and his dad worked all afternoon to fix it
Then - he flew his kite high in the sky.

一个小孩，想拿他的风筝飞，可是风筝坏了，所以他找爸爸去修，修好后，他的风筝在天空中飞得好高啊！

Story:

One windy day a little boy wanted to fly his big. blue kite. However, his kite was broken and torn. So feeling sad, he asked his dad if he could help him fix it. His dad used wood glue and needle and thread to fix the kite. Finally, the little boy took his kite out and flew it high in the sky. Woosh!

请同学们注意听下面的录音，先考验一下你的听力吧！

（There was a little boy who had a favorite toy. He tried and tried with all his might. He just couldn’t fly his favorite kite. He asked his dad if he could try. Now the little boy’s kite can fly high in the sky.）

下面，我们套用SWBST公式试着来讲讲其他的英语经典故事吧，之后的课程会一一运用四段论进行解析操练。

Somebody Wanted, But, So Then, Finally

(This format is often ended with a “then” statement.)

红衣少女的故事

Little Red Riding Hood wanted to visit her grandmother,

but left the path and met a hungry wolf.

So the wolf wanted to eat Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother. Then the hunter saved them and killed the wolf.

Script:

(Little Red Riding Hood went for a walk，to find her grandmother so they could talk. But a big ugly wolf had her in sight and wanted her and grandma for dinner that night. So the wolf did chase them and did run until the hunter killed the wolf and ended his fun. )

灰姑娘的的故事

Cinderella wanted to go to the ball, but her evil stepmother wouldn’t allow her to go, so her fairy godmother showed up and used magic to give her a dress, shoes, and a carriage so she could go. Then…she met the Prince, they fell in love, and lived happily ever after.

Script:

(Cinderella wanted to go to the ball but her evil stepmother told her no. She had to work all day and all night. Help her step sister’s look their best. She couldn’t go to a ball because she had no dress. But Cinderella’s fairy godmother used magic and said nothing was tragic and gave Cinderella everything she would need. Dress，and shoes and a carriage too  and sent her way. Then Cinderella met the Prince and all they had was fun and laughter. As they married and lived happily ever after.)

下面是关于讲故事的几个核心问题：

Somebody

Who is the story about?

Wanted

What does she/he want to do?

But

What happened?

Then

How was the problem solved?

“Where have you experienced something like this?” (One child said that his mother made him eat cottage cheese, and he hated it. Several children had stories of scary surprises, and their reactions.)

Then I asked, “What is this story all about?”

One little girl thought for a second, then her eyes lit up. “This is about… when you get scared, you can decide if you’re going to run away, or not!”

She finished up with “Next time I will decide by myself of what to do!”
