Episode 5: Mole Overboard!

Rat was glad to see Otter. Otter was ariverbanker.

“Otter, this is Mole,” said Rat. “We’rejust about to eat.”

Sounds came from the bushes. They alllooked. It was Badger! He pushed through the leaves. Badger stared at them.

“Hmmph!” he said.

Badger turned and went into the bushesagain.

“He didn’t say Hello,” said Mole,surprised.

“I told you,” Ratsaid.

“badger likes tobe alone.”

After lunch Ratpacked up the basket.

“Guess Who is onthe river today?” said Otter.

“Who?” askedRat.

“Toad! He’s inhis new racing boat,” said Otter.

“Toad is alwaystrying new things,” said Rat.

“But he’s nevergood at them,” laughed Otter.

“Well, I’mleaving! Nice meeting you, Mole.”

Mole was puttingthe oars in the boat.

“We’re going too,”said Rat.

“Oh, Rat, pleaselet me row,” cried Mole.

“Not yet. Youneed a few lessons,” said Rat.

Mole climbedinto the boat. Rat hopped in and untied the boat.

“Rowing can’t bevery hard,” Mole thought.

Quickly hegrabbed the oars!

“Stop, you’llmake us tip over!” cried Rat.

The boat tippedback and forth. Mole lost his balance.

Sploosh! Theyfell into the cold water.
