「W1D3」Reading：

Reading 3. The Mermaid Lagoon

One summer evening, Peter, Wendy, John, Michael, and the Lost Boys went to the Mermaid's Lagoon. Beautiful mermaids lived there, and they were Peter's friends. They swam and played in the blue lagoon. Then they sat on Marooner's Rock to comb their long hair. They sat in the sun and laughed. The children liked the mermaids, and John said, "I want to catch one!" He tried, but the mermaid jumped into the water.

Suddenly Peter saw a small boat with pirates coming to the lagoon. Peter asked John; Michael and the Lost Boys jumped off the rock and swam away. But Wendy stayed with Peter. They hid behind the rock. Peter saw Tiger Lily, the Indian princess. She was sitting in the small boat. Poor Tiger Lily was a prisoner of the pirates. Peter wanted to save Tiger Lily and thought of a good idea. He imitated Captain Hook's voice to let Smee set her free. Smee was confused but had to obey the Captain. He cut the ropes, and Tiger Lily was free. She quickly jumped into the water and swam away. 

Captain Hook found Tiger Lily ran away, and he was furious. He shouted at Smee and swore that he must catch Peter Pan. Suddenly there was a “tick, tock, tick, tock,” and Hook was so afraid that he ran away. At the same time, all the children went to the Indian Camp. Tiger Lily’s father, the Indian King, thanked the children with respect and honor. He made red the middle of each one’s head, which was the special makeup of Indians. Children joined the Camp’s special ceremony with King’s best wishes for their future luck.
