The Little Princess loved a story at bedtime.

小公主喜欢在睡觉之前听一个睡前故事。

But she didn't like the dark.

可是她不喜欢黑夜。

"I WANT MY LIGHT ON!" she said.

“我想开着灯！”她说。

"WHY?" asked her dad.

“为什么？”爸爸问道。”

"Because there are ghosts in the dark," she said.

“因为黑夜里有鬼，”她说。

"Probably under the bed."

“可能在床底下。”

"Don't be silly, there are NO such things as ghosts," said Dad.

“别傻了，世界上根本没有鬼，”爸爸说。

"And there's nothing under the bed."

“你看，床底下什么都没有。”

"Don't be silly, there are NO such things as ghosts," said the Admiral.

“别傻了，世界上肯定没有鬼，”海军上将说。

"And if there were, the General would deal with them."

“就算真的有，将军也会对付他们的。”

"Don't be silly, there are NO such things as ghosts," said the Doctor.

“别犯傻了，世界上压根没有鬼，”医生说。

"And if there were, all you'd have to do is blow your nose."

“如果真的有，你只要擤擤鼻涕就好了。”

"I WANT MY LIGHT ON ANYWAY!" said the Little Princess.

“我就是要开着灯！”小公主说。

"Why?" said the Maid.

“为什么呀？”女仆说。

"Look, Gilbert isn't afraid of the dark."

“你看，吉伯特就不怕黑嘛。”

"I'm not so much afraid of the dark!" said the Little Princess.

“我倒不是有多怕黑！”小公主说。

"I'm sort of more afraid of ghosts."

“其实我更多的是怕鬼。”

"Don't be silly, there are NO such things as ghosts," said the Maid.

“别傻了，世界上真的没有鬼的，”女仆说。

"And if there were, they'd be very small,

“就算真的有，他们肯定很小，

'cos I'VE never seen one!"

因为我一个都没见过！”

"Yes, Gilbert, ghosts are probably very small," said the Little Princess.

“是啊，吉伯特，鬼应该是很小的，”小公主说。

"So we must be careful not to step on them!"

“所以我们得小心，别踩着他们！”

"Nighty nighty, sleepy tighty," said the Maid ...and she switched off the light.

“晚安，好梦，”女仆说 ...然后她关上了灯。

"I bet ghosts are afraid of the dark as well," thought the Little Princess.

“我想鬼也是怕黑的吧。”小公主这么想。

"OOOO!" cried the Little Princess.

“呜 ...!”小公主吓得叫起来。

"That sounds very much like a ghost!"

“这像是鬼的声音！”

"OOOO!" cried the little ghost.

“呜...!”小鬼说。

"That sounds very much like a little girl!"

“这像是小女孩的声音！”

So the Little Princess hid under her bed.

于是，小公主躲到了床底下。

So did the little ghost.

小鬼也躲到了床底下。

"BOOOOOO!" said the Little Princess.

“卟...!”小公主对小鬼做起了鬼脸。

"OOOOOO!" said the little ghost.

“呜 ...!”小鬼吓了一跳。

And he ran all the way back to where he lived at the top of the castle.

然后他一溜烟回到了城堡顶，他住的地方。

"MUM,MUM,I'VE SEEN A LITTLE GIRL!"

“妈妈，妈妈，我看到了一个小女孩！”

"Don't be silly," said his mum.

“别傻了，”妈妈对他说。

"There are NO such things as little girls!"

“世界上根本没有小女孩的！”

"I WANT MY LIGHT ON ANYWAY!" said the little ghost.

“不管怎么样，我要开着灯！”小鬼说。
