That workers with six-figure salaries could be considered "poor" is something that might surprise many people. But taking into account income and housing costs, that is a reality for some families - who may be eligible for housing assistance - according to a recent report from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Big iceberg threatens village

A 100-meter high iceberg has drifted close to a tiny settlement on Greenland's west coast, prompting fears of a tsunami if it breaks up. Authorities have told residents of the Innaarsuit island settlement living near the shore to move to higher ground.

"Nobody is staying unnecessarily close to the beach and all children have been told to stay in areas that are high up."

The trendy superfood "red dates" from Asia kill cancer cells in the lab, new research suggests. Jujube fruits, which are known as red dates due to them looking similar to the Middle Eastern staple, program lung, breast and prostate cancer cells to essentially commit suicide, a study published in the journal Food & Function found.

Red dates are thought to trigger cancer cell death by causing "internal stress" in tumors, according to researchers from the Royal Society of Chemistry. The researchers believe jujube extracts could be used in cancer treatments in traditional Chinese medicine. They add, however, further research is required to determine how the fruit's compounds trigger cancer cell death.
