Grace stayed in California for about 2 or so months when she first came to the United States and her biggest challenge was communication without the room of the doubt. After she moved to Texas, the environment of lesser Chinese made her feel scared. She couldn't understand a single sentence came out one's mouth.
She got pulled to a regular English class with all the Americans, where she felt so nervous to talk to someone, afraid of saying something wrong and hearing the wrong thing. This all came from inner scares of the fear of being judged
How did she become such an excellent English speaker currently? Luckily, she met a nice and friendly girl from GuangXi. She taught Grace so much and corrected her speaking habit and pronunciation, which helped her get used to the environment.
The tips she shared:
Listening more as you go. Don’t be afraid to ask. Spending time with friends that help you. Being shy and staying in your comfort zone would get you nowhere.
