It was kinda busy to travel several places at a short amount of time. The week before Christmas, I was attending my best friend's graduation in Denver, Colorado, winter is one of the graduation seasons.

Graduation is the time to celebrate the past achievement and to embark on an exciting new journey.

In America, they also call the commencement ceremony. Commencement is the formal word meaning the starting of something. It probably symbolizes that the graduation is not just an end of school life, but also is the beginning of a new period.
the graduates need to write down the name card and take with them which is used for the announcement. But it also depends on different universities which could've different rules of announcing.
Usually, there are some speeches speaking by the dean, keynote speaker. Additionally, there is also one speech representing by a student called valediction （毕业演讲）, a formal speech to say goodbye. A person who is chosen to give this valediction is called valedictorian （上台发表离别致辞的学生）, usually is the best student in this college.
To graduate with honors: a person who has a very high achievement on the academy.
