A few days ago the British Motorsport Festival (BMF) was held at Golden
Port Motor Park in eastern Beijing. This was a festival of some of the greatest
UK performance cars both driving on the circuit and providing close-up
opportunities for the many car enthusiasts attending. Although sports cars are
about speed and competition there is also a great emphasis on safety. Drivers of
racing cars need a licence to prove there are competent to compete in action
races. Part of the festival was about improving awareness of safe, fast driving.
To assist with this one of Britain’s top performance driving instructors, Pat
Blakeney was brought over to Beijing. Pat brought with him a wealth of
motorsport, instructing and management experience. He is Chairman of The
Association of Racing Drivers' Schools (ARDS) in the UK and has closely worked
on the development of a professional coaching scheme for potential racing car
drivers.
