Well I think America will be fine

as long as people of goodwill across thepolitical spectrum

participate and make sure that they vote

When people vote

then Congress reflects the values of thecountry

But it's going to require folks getting outof a mindset

that we're helpless and there's nothing wecan do

and it's gonna require them to step up anddevote a relatively modest amount of time

to make sure that you're casting yourballot

If you do that you'll see a difference

Politics rarely gives you perfect results

It's not going to solve every problem

but when citizens vote things will bebetter

and you know better historically is isreally important

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 didn'teliminate racism

but it made things a lot better for a lotof people

The passage of Social Security didn't meanevery senior was safe from poverty

but it lifted up millions of people out ofpoverty

and that's how our government works

but it only works when people are actuallycommitted to change

There are big differences between Democratsand Republicans and I'm a Democrat

I think Democrats have better ideas

但是

But

The fact the matter is is that this countrywas built by Democrats and Republicans

My personal political hero

My favorite president

happens to be a guy named Abraham Lincolnwho helped found the Republican Party

and gives some indication of

how far the current Republican Party hastraveled from its original foundations

此外

and

The good news is is that the vast majorityof the American people

believe in the values that a Lincolnrepresented

or a Kennedy representative

Then we should treat people decently and weshould be honest

We should be concerned for the lessfortunate

We should invest in the future and makesure that every child gets opportunity

Regardless of party there was a sense thatthere are things that held us together

so I'm optimistic we'll be okay as long aswe say

oh we got to pay attention we got a vote wegot to participate

Young people in particular need to vote andthey need to vote in midterms

If we do then

that set of values that the majority of theAmerican people hold dear will be reflected

还有

and

It doesn't mean every problem will besolved

but we won't be concerned about thecontinuity of our democracy

and the fact that ultimately it'saccountable to the people
