When we arrived, Hans was already sitting down in a cozy corner of the café. He welcomed us with a big and bright smile, and we could instantly feel the warm and down to earth atmosphere, and our conversation started right away, but before I share some amazing eye-opening moments with all of you, I would like to give a quick introduction of Hans first.
Hans Martin Galliker was born into a farmer’s family in Switzerland, where he developed his passion for agriculture at his apprenticeship. With a diversified background, Hans started his career in IT, where he later pursued a degree in communication. During his studies, Hans became very inspired by his classmates and decided to follow his heart and make a social impact in the agricultural industry.
In 2008, Hans went on exchange to China, a decision that completely changed his life journey. After realizing the agricultural and environmental challenges in China, Hans was aroused to help and innovate the farming industry. This movement enlightened Hans to start his clothing brand NEEMIC, a line of organic clothes that are based on the foundation of sustainability, fair working and creativity. Lately, Hans has been working on launching “Urban Rural Bridge”, a platform that makes the whole supply chain more efficient and assist individual farmer to achieve a more convenient daily routine.
When Hans came to China in early 2008, he was full of curiosity and excitement, but also began to notice the hard life of the local farmers. Due to his background, Hans was particularly sensitive and concerned about the rural farming conditions. That is why he together with an American friend went on a research tour to explore Chinese agriculture. Together with 2 translators they managed to visit 17 provinces in China to explore the agricultural, trade and policy situation. Hans found the field research very impressive and gained a deeper interest in the topic, which made him stay in China. Back then Chinese agriculture was very complex, and organic agriculture was still in its early stage of development. This motivated Hans to stay and help getting the sustainable agricultural movement up and running, which is why he founded this clothing brand NEEMIC.
NEEMIC was introduced in 2011 by Hans and his partner Amihan Zemp. The core value of the brand is tight together with design, sustainability and art, aiming to create beautiful design, making the industry more sustainable and providing a platform for artistic exchange.
