I often wake up early, always before 6 in the morning. But recently I had to catch an early morning flight to another city, so I set the alarm for 5 a.m. However I am always restless before a flight and didn’t sleep at all well. Eventually, at 4, I decided I may as well get up. I just couldn’t sleep, thinking about the trip ahead and the work I would have to do. Of course it was still dark outside and I was conscious of not making any noise and disturbing the neighbours. I could hear some noise outside, which sounded like a couple of cats fighting, so there was no chance of going back to sleep. I made a coffee and decided I had time for a breakfast too. I knew there would be a meal on the plane but the food is usually pretty poor, tasteless and sometimes inedible. There were eggs, tomatoes and bacon in the fridge, so I rustled up a tasty meal for myself. The smell was delicious and it all went down perfectly with some toast and a cup of sweet black coffee. I felt great, really glad that I had got up so early. I had managed to turn a bad moment into a good one by making good use of the time I had gained. And the food on the plane later was pretty poor. Glad I filled up first.
