The Royal Air Force (RAF) are allowing its airmen to grow beards under new rules for the first time in its 101-year history. It aims to promote inclusivity, broaden the RAF's recruitment pool and retain highly-skilled personnel. 
根据新规，英国皇家空军将允许士兵留络腮胡，这在其成立101年的历史中尚属首次。新规旨在提升包容性、扩大皇家空军募兵对象以及留住高技能人才。

The change to their "facial hair policy" will take effect from Sept 1, but there are still strict rules on the beards. The airmen will have to ensure their beards are "trimmed and neat", cover the whole jawline and be no longer than ten inches. The RAF has insisted members will still have to maintain "high standards of appearance". 
变更后的"面部毛发政策"将自9月1日起生效，不过新规对于胡子本身仍有严格限定。蓄须的士兵必须保证胡子"常修剪、保持整洁"，胡子要覆盖整个下巴，且长度不得超过10英寸(约合25.4厘米)。皇家空军强调士兵仍须对外表保持高标准。

The nation is the world's second-biggest marine polluter and has pledged to reduce plastic waste in its waters some 70% by 2025 by boosting recycling, raising public awareness, and curbing usage.

An hour-long bus ride with unlimited stops costs three large bottles, five medium bottles or 10 plastic cups. But they must be cleaned and cannot be squashed. Authorities said roughly six tons of plastic rubbish are collected from passengers each month before being auctioned to recycling companies.

The number of internet users has surged to 830 million in 2018 from 620,000 in 1997, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). On Tuesday, the NBS released a report on China's achievements on economic and social development since the People's Republic of China was founded 70 years ago. 
国家统计局13日发布新中国成立70周年经济社会发展成就报告。报告显示，我国网民由1997年的62万人激增至2018年的8.3亿人。

Telecommunication industry has been developing fast in 70 years. In 2018, the traffic consumption of mobile internet reached 71.1 billion GigaBytes (GB), 56.1 times of the amount in 2013. At the end of 2018, 368 million people accessed internet through optical fiber and 1.17 billion people accessed it through 4G. Internet consumption unlocked residents' consumption potential.

Fake tongue detects whiskies

Being palmed off with a young whisky when expecting an 18-year-old single malt can be a glass-half-empty moment. But now scientists have developed an "artificial tongue" that might make such skulduggery a thing of the past. 
当你满怀期待地品尝十八年陈酿单一麦芽威士忌时，喝到的却是一杯当年的新货，实在是件令人沮丧的事情。现在，科学家们研发出了一种"人工舌头"，可以让这种烦心事儿成为过去时了。

"You could train your particular 'tongue' to know what one of these whiskies 'tasted' like, so that when the fake stuff came along it could identify it and when the real stuff came along it could confirm that it was the real stuff," said Dr Alasdair Clark, the lead author of the research from the University of Glasgow. Clark said the technology could be incorporated into a small, portable device and have a wide range of applications, from identifying poisons to environmental monitoring of rivers.
