Thebusiness I know and would like to talk about is owned by a family in ourcommunity. It’s a floral business and they’ve been very successful with it.They have a large nursery outside oftown and this is where they grow their produce. The flowers they harvest aresold wholesale to local vendors.
MrChen is the man with the green fingers who started the business many moons ago.Over the years, the business has grown in leapsand bounds. Nowadays, they have been increasing the size of their flowerfarm by branching out into shrubs,bulbs and gardening supplies. I heard talk that they are considering exportingflowers to neighbouring provinces, as well. With the business on the rise, I think that Mr Chen has agood business head on his shoulders and he created a solid business model.
Allof his family are involved in the business. I know that he’s been able to put his children through university inthe UK with the money he has earned. Now, both his son and his daughter areinvolved in the day to day business. Other family members, such as uncles andaunts, work in the nursery tending to the plants and managing the otherworkers. I think it’s a good idea to keep it in the family.
Youknow, in the beginning, he only had two small gardens and a small shop. But bypersevering, and through his own hard work, he created a very successful business.
Ithink his business plan, hard work, dedication, timely decision making and luckworked to his advantage, and the family has become a renowned floral company inthis province.
Hisbiggest shop is just down the road from where I live and so our house is alwaysfull of flowers, as we often drop in on our way home. If Mr Chen is there, we always come away with a great armful of blooms, as he is a good friend to my mum and dad and they’ve knowneach other for years.
