Every summer when I top up（加满、充值） my selection of summer outfits（服装） from the department stores（百货商店）

每年夏天，当我从百货公司选购夏装补充衣橱时

my eyes would nearly pop out of（从…伸出来） my head.

我的眼珠子都快蹦出来了。

I’m overwhelmed（不堪重负、不知所措） with the wide range of different slimming（减肥） products each year.

我每年都被各种各样的减肥产品弄得不知所措。

And more shockingly, these products are often advocated（提倡，拥护，代言） by very slim models.

更令人震惊的是，这些产品通常是由非常苗条的模特代言的。

Having lived in Asia for almost ten years now, I’ve seen various dieting tips（n.秘诀，技巧；小贴士，小窍门） come and go.

在亚洲生活了近10年，我看到各种各样的节食秘诀来来去去。

I remember in Japan people heading directly to the food section in the supermarket when the banana diet was at its peak（adj.最高的；最大值的）.

我记得在日本香蕉节饮食最盛行的时候，人们直接去超市的食品区。

Then, there was the black tea（红茶） and oolong tea（乌龙茶） diet followed by the soybean（n.大豆；黄豆） diet and the tomato juice（番茄汁） diet. The list goes on and on.

其次是红茶和乌龙茶，其次是大豆和番茄汁。这样的例子不胜枚举。

Apart from what people eat, I’ve also seen many interesting slimming products.

除了人们吃的以外，我还看到了许多有趣的减肥产品。

In Hongkong, I’ve seen girls wrapping（v.裹住） their whole body or both legs up with a special type of slimming tape（n.胶带） which is supposed to help make them thinner.

在香港，我看到女孩们用一种特殊的瘦身胶带包裹全身或双腿，据说这种胶带可以帮助她们变得更瘦。

But it just reminded me of the roasted ham（烤火腿） my mother usually puts on the dinner table of Christmas.

但这让我想起了我妈妈通常在圣诞节时放在餐桌上的烤火腿。

Then there were the face slimming rollers that were said to improve your blood circulation and make your face smaller.

还有一种滚轮瘦脸器，据说可以改善血液循环，让你的脸变小。

Personally,I do not believe in any of these slimming gadgets（n.小配件；小工具）.

就我个人而言，我不相信这些减肥小工具。

And I think I have a very different perspective（n.观点；远景；透视图） when it comes to the definition of what is beautiful.

Asian women prefer to avoid the sun because being pale（adj.苍白的；无力的；暗淡的） or white is considered beautiful,

Whereas（conj.然而；鉴于） a tanned（adj.皮肤晒成褐色的） complexion（n.肤色；面色；情况；局面） is considered much more beautiful and sexy in the west.

It is most certainly shaped by a person’s culture as well as how they were raised in their childhood.

它肯定是由一个人的文化以及他们在童年时的成长方式所决定的。

As each summer season approaches, there’s no escape from it.

随着每个夏季的临近，人们无法逃避它。

But it’s not only women who are affected by this pressure to look good.

但并不只有女性会受到这种压力的影响。

Men aspire to be able to show off their six packs or their V-shape backs and there’s a growing market of slimming pills（n.药丸（pill的复数）） aimed at men too.

男人们渴望展示他们的六块腹肌或v型后背，针对男性的减肥药市场也在不断增长。

I think no matter what diets we follow or what slimming products we obsess（v.使痴迷，使迷恋） ourselves with, at the end of the day there’s no magic trick（n.诡计；恶作剧；窍门；花招；骗局；） to shape up for the summer.

我认为，无论我们遵循什么样的饮食习惯，也无论我们沉迷于什么样的减肥产品，在一天结束的时候，都没有什么神奇的方法来为夏天塑形。

Eat in a balance way and incorporate（结合） the right level of physical activity.

饮食要平衡，并进行适当的体育锻炼。

For me, this still seems to be the best plan.

对我来说，这似乎仍然是最好的计划。
