A Virginian biochemist has been named Miss America 2020 after performing a live science experiment that defied stereotypes of the contest. Camille Schrier defeated 50 women to take the crown at the final in Uncasville, Connecticut. In her acceptance speech, the 24-year-old said she hoped to "break stereotypes about what it means to be Miss America in 2020".

Schrier's victory is expected to be viewed as another progressive step away from Miss America's traditional beauty contest format.

This Christmas, a mom-of-two hilariously pranked her kids by filling up her entire bath with hot chocolate and marshmallows - and blamed it on the Elf on the Shelf. After spotting the idea on a Facebook page, Megan Deyoung, from Australia, spent ￡5 on hot chocolate powder and poured it into the tub.

Qatar plans desert campsites

Qatar's World Cup bosses have asked Glastonbury Festival chiefs to help plan huge desert campsites for thousands of football fans. The tiny Gulf state expects a total of 1.6 million people to visit during the monthlong 2022 World Cup tournament, with up to 160,000 needing a bed on the busiest days. But only 70,000 hotel rooms will be available in the capital, Doha.

Boeing CEO steps down

Boeing's Chief Executive Dennis Muilenburg has resigned from his position, and current chairman David Calhoun was named by the board of directors as his successor, the US aircraft manufacturer said on Monday. Boeing said Calhoun would take over as the new chief executive and president as of Jan 13, 2020, and he will remain a member of the board.
