There are two expressions that are often confused by Chinese English students and learners. I will teach you these today and the right way to use them. They are very common in every day English.
Phrases/Words
‘along’
‘a long’
‘Along’ means ‘beside, next to’.
‘A long’ is an expression that indicates how far something is.
Practice
The boy walked along the street.
The man took his dog along with him to the park.
The girl went along with what her teacher said. (means that she agreed with the teacher)
It is a long way from Hong Kong to Beijing.
It is a long distance from New York City to Dallas, Texas.
I studied my math homework for a long time last night.
These are very useful expressions and words. You will need them in everyday conversation. When you learn them and use them correctly, you will sound more like a native English speaker.
