Ginny’s full name is Ginevra Molly Weasley, the youngest andonly sister of the Weasley family. She was in the Gryffindor house in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, along with the rest of her family, she is 1 year lower than Harry.

She has typical Weasley family traits: flaming red hair and a freckled complexion.

Ginny is forceful, independent and often speaks her mind.Ginny is not afraid to stand up to anybody, friends and enemies alike. Notably,she stands up to Draco Malfoy on their first meeting in Diagon Alley when he insulted Harry. And that’s exactly when Lucius Malfoy slips in Tom Riddle’s diary into her cauldron.

If you have read the book of ‘Chamber of the secrets’, you already know that at the climax of the story it is revealed by Tom Riddle that it is Ginny who opened the Chamber of Secrets, and is attacking Muggle-born students while being possessed by Tom Riddle's old school diary.

Remember, Dobby came to warn Harry about the plot during the summer break. It means that Lucius was instructed earlier to do so by Lord Voldemort.

Now, let’s talk about why Voldemort chose Ginny.

Being raised in a 7-kid family, Ginny has her own pitiful worries and woes – how her brothers tease her, how she had to come to school in second handed books and robes, how she didn’t know famous, good great Harry Potter would ever like her. And Ginny loves the diary and tells it everything in her mind, she once said it’s like having a friend I can carry around in my pocket.

Ginny has told Voldemort that Harry is on the trail of the mystery of Slytherin’s heir, He will go any distance to find it out,particularly if one of his best friends is in danger. So, Voldemort knows Ginny is the right person Harry will risk his own life try to rescue.

Tom Riddle took Ginny in order to lure Harry into the Chamber so that he could kill him. He says at one point that " killing mud-bloods doesn't matter to me anymore" and that getting Harry has been his real purpose.

Giving the diary to Ginny is indeed also Lucius’s revenge on Arthur Weasley to discredit him for his muggle-protection-act, by letting his own daughter to kill muggle-born students. So, it means it’s not completely Voldemort’s plan to choose Ginny, but also Lucius.

OK, so the mystery why Ginny is chosen as the bait to lure and to kill Harry has been solved.
