Good morning.
Today I’ll teach you two words that some students confuse. They confuse these two words because they sound alike. Listen closely to the different pronunciations. It makes a big difference because, they have different meanings.
Words
precede
proceed
Precede means “to go before.” Proceed means “to move or go forward.”
Practice
The teachers’ meeting preceded the contest.
The board meeting proceeded with the discussions.
The girl preceded her mother going to the hairstylist.
The game proceeded after the player was hurt.
My car preceded my friends car in the traffic.
Our car proceeded after the traffic light turned green.
The campaign preceded the election.
After the boss’ instruction, we proceeded with our work.
‘A’ always precedes ‘B’ in the alphabet.
The child proceeded with her speech after the short interruption.
Learn the difference in how these words sound. Also, make sure you know what they mean. Use them the right way.
