IF you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
IF you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowance for their doubting too;
如果周围的人毫无理性地向你发难，你仍能镇定自若保持冷静；
如果众人对你心存猜忌，你仍能自信如常并认为他们的猜忌情有可原；

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,

吉卜林（Rudyard Kipling, 1865—1936），英国小说家、诗人。1907年，他凭借“洞察事物的能力、奇绝的想象、恢弘的思想和杰出的叙事才能”获得诺贝尔文学奖，成为英国第一位获此奖的作家。《如果》 是吉卜林写给时年12岁的儿子的一首励志诗，被译成27国语言作为学习的教材。各国青少年以此勉励自己，激发前进的动力。全诗使用了多个“如果”来启发读者想象和思考，从理想、信念、处世、待人等不同的角度展示了人生中会面临的种种考验，表现出对下一代的关爱、教诲和期待。在吉卜林的笔下，一个人应当具有的完美人格是刚正不阿、不卑不亢、永远进取，还要有自由与尊严。
