Welcome to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia and Southeast Asia’s largest megacity[ˈmeɡəsɪti] . Jakarta is becoming more popular as a destination for tourists and business people every year.
欢迎来到雅加达，印尼首都，东南亚最大的大城市。作为旅游和商务人士的目的地，雅加达每年都越来越受欢迎。


Jakarta is home to over 9 million people. That number grows to 11 million by day, as 2 million people travel from nearby towns and villages to work here.
雅加达有900多万人口。随着200万人从附近的城镇和村庄来到这里工作，这个数字每天增长到1100万。


With its tall buildings and busy motorways , it’s hard to believe that the great city of Jakarta grew from one small harbour and a few villages.

However, a visit to the old town of Batavia reveals the secrets of Jakarta’s history.

Batavia was the centre of old Jakarta.
Its European-style buildings were built by the Dutch , who came here to buy and sell goods in the sixteenth century.

Sunda Kelapa harbour is where ships from Europe, China and India were filled with tea, coffee, spices, silk and so on to sell to the world. Here you can see

If you’re looking for a more modern attraction, Monas is the national monument. It stands 132 metres tall and at the top there is a golden flame. Below the tower you’ll find the National Museum, where you can learn about 1.5 million years of Indonesian history.
