冷到你怀疑人生的怀俄明州

So I’ve spent the past two and a half months living in a bus, next to a river, here in the high plains of Wyoming in the United States.

这里是美国怀俄明州的平原，我已经在一个巴士房车上呆了两个半月了，

 It’s been an incredible two months and I’ve loved living in this old bus, however, Wyoming gets really cold and that bus is not winterized. 

呆巴士房里的这两个半月体验非常不错，可是冬天就要到了，这辆巴士在怀俄明州的冬天是过不了冬的

So just yesterday I moved across the ranch, into a place they call Jack’s Cabin. This is Lao Zhang and I want to tell you my story about living in Wyoming. 

所以昨天我跨过牧场，搬进了（主人名）杰克小木屋，这里是老张，跟你聊聊怀俄明的生活。

So I’ve been trapped here in the United States for the past six months. So I spent two months with my parents in Florida, in the southeast. 

过去6个月我都困在国内，其中呆了2个月跟我爸妈一起

Then I drove to the midwest to my friends Diana and Herman’s house in Oklahoma and after a couple months with them,

然后我就自驾去中西部我朋友黛安娜和荷门家里，在他们那儿呆了几个月

 I knew I had to leave their home so I just kinda went north and a little more west and I came across Wyoming. 

我不敢打扰太久得走了，就朝北走和偏西点来到了怀俄明州。

Wyoming is the least populous state in this country. 

怀俄明是美国人口最少的州

Most everything here is mountains and they call the high plains or the high desert.

这里大部分是山峦，高原和沙漠之类的。

 It’s just this barren, dry land. It’s beautiful in many ways but, boy, it’s really arid and dry. 

基本上都是贫瘠干燥的土地，虽然放眼望去很美丽，但是真的很干旱乏味

There’s so little here. There’s so few people. These big roads just kinda go into nowhere. And you’re on them, usually by yourself. It’s incredible.

没什么生活气息在这儿，只有几个人，这些大马路好像通到世界尽头，你一个人独自在这上面开车的时候，那种感觉非常特别

Now, I’m from New York City. I’ve lived in some small places in China and in Mexico. But I’ve never lived here in such a remote area. 

我在纽约大城市长大，也呆过中国一些偏僻地区，墨西哥等，但是我还没住过这么偏僻的地方

I’m eight and a half miles from the main road. So it takes us eight and half miles to drive on a dirt road to get to the main road. 

我住的地儿离主路有八里多远，我们得开车走8里多的泥泞小路去到主路上

And when we get to the main road, it’s a town of twenty-five people. So for me to go to a store just to buy some food, it takes over an hour.

主路开一段时间就到了人口只有25个的小镇，我们在这儿的商店采购食物，一趟下来得一个多小时。

However, because of what’s happening here because of the pandemic, and all the madness here in the United States, this has been a perfect respite for me.

尽管不是很方便，但是在疫情和米国内最近频繁发生荒唐事的情况下，这里反倒成为了我一个完美的避风港

 It’s been a place of serenity, tranquility…it’s an area with very few people, so I don’t have to worry about the pandemic. 

这里非常安静，人烟稀少，我不必担心疫情

I don’t have to worry about much of anything, except for getting food, but I’m here with a couple of other people and they’ve lived here, and they know what they’re doing, so they help me out and we go together. 

除了采购食物要费劲点，其他我没有要担忧的，而且我的邻居们都是常住在这儿的，很熟悉情况，所以他们会帮助我一起出去购物什么的。

So the thing is, I’ve been living in that bus which has been very interesting and unusual, even for me. 

有意思的是，在巴士房里生活对我有来说也是很不寻常的。

The bus was from 1973. And it was built to be a bus to live in, so it had a big bed in the back. 

这辆房车是1973年的，后来改造成房车，里面有张大床

It had a bathroom. It had a place to cook and it had a kitchen table and it had a couch…so it was a perfect place for me. 

洗浴间，厨房，炉灶，沙发，这一切对我来说都足够了

And because it was right next to that river, I always heard that water flowing.

而且它还是在一条小溪旁，能听到潺潺水声

 It’s a beautiful, wonderful space, but, it’s not equipped to have people live there in the winter time because here in Wyoming they get incredible snow and incredible cold. 

房车很漂亮很舒服，但是它还没有足够设备过冬，怀俄明州的冬天可不是一般的冷。

Now I’ve been living in southern China in Huizhou and then in Zhuhai for years now and so, I’m used to the hot weather.

因为我最近几年呆在中国南部的惠州和珠海，习惯了热带天气

 And so I’m a little nervous because now, suddenly the cold is coming here soon. 

对于即将到来的冷天气我有点忐忑

So, just yesterday I moved into this beautiful wood cabin. It’s small, just one room. It has its own bathroom and it has a small place to cook. 

昨天我就搬到了这个美丽小木屋，有一个卧室，厨房和卫生间。

And it has this big pot-belly wood burning stove. Here, everything is…we’re always burning things. There’s always a fire going.

还有一个烧木材取暖的大壶型腹火炉，你得不停保持它有火烧着才有暖意

Because the interesting here is that in the daytime, it might be seventy or seventy-five degrees, but at nighttime it drops down to maybe thirty degrees or twenty-five degrees. 

有意思的是这儿白天温度可能是二十多摄氏度，到晚上就急降到3摄氏度左右

So there’s this huge discrepancy each day. So, you always have a fire at night, even if it’s real sunny and warm during the day.

昼夜温差非常大，你晚上必须得有火生着，哪怕白天还是阳光普照的。

 It’s kinda of this ,weird…it’s almost this bipolar way of living. 

这挺奇特的，几乎是两种极端的生活

But I’ve really enjoyed it and I’m anticipating the winter because it’s gonna be a huge challenge for me. 

我目前挺享受的，也预想到冬天可能对我有点难熬。

The snow and the ice and just the freezing cold and then starting the fires and just trying to live in this environment is a new and different thing for me and I’m looking forward to it.

在冰天雪地和极度寒冷情况下生活火取暖过日子，我还是挺期待这种即将到来的别开生面的生活

So this is my second day here in the cabin and I’m feeling pretty good so far.

我已经搬进小木屋2天了，目前我感觉不错

 It’s beautiful outside. This sky is this deep blue and I’m right next to this prairie, so it’s just this flat area with grass. 

外面风景不错，湛蓝的天空碧绿的草原，一大片绿油油的

There are a couple of cows out there. And I’m in here. It’s really warm because I have a fire going and there’s no sound or anything, it’s just this quiet, empty area and it’s the beginning of my winter here in Wyoming. 

这有几头牛在这儿悠闲吃草，我呆在温暖的火炉旁感受着这种寂静无声的空间感，开启了我在怀俄明州的冬天
