Advanced - Aprendiendo a esquiar (E0080)
A:Este invierno me lo he pasado contando los d´ıas para irme a esquiar. He preparado este viaje durante meses y por fifin ha llegado el d´ıa.
I’ve spent the winter counting the days until I go offff skiing. I’ve been planning this trip for months, and fifinally the day has arrived.
B:Nunca he esquiado y me gustar´ıa intentarlo algun´ d´ıa. Lo que pasa es que me da miedo la velocidad con la que descienden y en la television he´visto muchos accidentes.
I’ve never skied and I would like to try it some day. The thing is that I’m scared by how fast you go down the mountain, and on television, I’ve seen a lot of accidents.
A:El exito del esqu´´ı reside en que el aprendizaje es relativamente sencillo. El primer contacto con la nieve es el mas importante, por ello, lo mejor´antes de entrar en inversiones de material, es asesorarse en los establecimientos de alquiler del
equipo.
Skiing’s success is due to the fact that learning is relatively simple. First contact with the snow is the most important, for this reason, the best thing to do before going and investing in equipment is to ask around in equipment rental places.
B:Pero no tengo idea de nada, no se a d´onde ir, qu´e´estilos hay de esquiar,. . . soy un completo ignorante acerca del tema, ademas siempre pienso´“algun d´´ıa lo hare” y ahora creo que es muy tarde.´
But I don’t have a clue about anything, I don’t know where to go, what kinds of skiing there are... I’m totally ignorant, regarding this topic, furthermore, I always think ”one day I’ll
do it” and now I think that it’s too late.
A:Mas vale tarde que nunca, yo te puedo dar unos´consejos o bien contratar a un profesor profesional que te instruya paso a paso.
Better late than never, I can give you some advice or maybe hire a professional instructor who can teach you step by step.
B:Mejor te pago a ti y me ahorro un dinero, se ve que tu eres una conocedora y la experiencia que´ tienes es invaluable. ¿Que recomendaciones me´dar´ıas para iniciarme en el esqu´ı?
I should just pay you and save myself some money; it’s obvious that you are in-the-know and the experience that you have is invaluable. What recommendations would you give me to get me started in skiing?
A:Pues para empezar, los esqu´ıs conviene que sean cortos, no mas largos que la estatura del es-´quiador; anchos, para ejercer mayor control y estabilidad sobre la nieve; y blandos, para absorber mejor las vibraciones.
Well to begin with, the skis should be short, not longer than the height of the skier; wide, to exert more control and stability over the snow; and flflexible, to better absorb the bumps.
B:¿Que diferentes modalidades de esqu´´ı existen? Porque me imagino que existen diferentes variedades, yo quiero probar una que no sea com
pleja.
What difffferent kinds of skiing are there? Because I imagine that there are difffferent kinds, I want to try one that’s not too hard.
A:Principalmente se han desarrollado dos modalidades, el alpino y el de fondo. El alpino, consiste en bajar cuestas empinadas; en cambio, el de fondo, se esqu´ıa sobre superfificies relativamente planas y de diferentes longitudes preparadas con
ondulaciones.
Mainly there are two kinds; downhill and cross-country. In downhill, it consists of going down steep slopes; on the other hand, in cross-country, one skis over relatively flflat surfaces of difffferent distances prepared with humps and dips.
B:Me atrae mas el esqu´´ı de fondo, no quiero bajar montanas muy empinadas. As˜´ı que ofificialmente me auto-invito a tu viaje, espero que haya lugar para uno mas.´
I’m more attracted to cross-country skiing, I don’t want to go down steep mountains. So therefore I am offiffifficially inviting myself on your trip, I hope there’s a spot for one more.
