I seecities as living beings, and when I discover them from far above, I like tofind those main streets and highways that structure their space. The city’svascular[1]system performs its vital[2] function right before your eyes. But the traffic jam makes itdifferent. Why? We created cars that can reach 130 miles per hour, and we nowdrive them at the same speed as 19th century horse carriages.
In established urban centers, our current way of thinking is not working, such as significant network expansions, because the habitatis too dense[3], real estate, too expensive, and public finances, too fragile[4]. For our transportationsto flow, we need a new source of inspiration.
Oururban transportation is mostly two-dimensional,so what we need is to embracethat verticality[5]. Let’s elevate our traffic. Tel aviv and Abu Dhabi are talkingabout testing this futuristic networks of suspended magnetic pods. Another way. If thewhole cities become driverless, you would have no red lights and no lanes.
