At CES 2017 in Las Vegas, LEGO unveiled the LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox which is going to turn all your LEGO toys into programmable robots.
The LEGO Boost comes with three Boost bricks, including Move Hub with built-in tilt sensor, combination color and distance sensor, and interactive motor. The set also comes with 843 pieces of LEGO elements and a special playmat that the robots can move on.
Besides the building parts, the companion Android and iOS app will handle the programming parts, using the basic coding instructions. It teaches kids how to code so that they can program their new robot friends by adding movement, sound and personality. For example, a dancing dinosaur.
According to LEGO's announcement, with the instructions of LEGO Boost, you coud build five different things out of the box: "Vernie the Robot, Frankie the Cat, the Guitar 4000, the Multi-Tool Rover 4 (M.T.R.4), and the Autobuilder" .
But what makes LEGO Boost especially amazing is that you can use it with your existing LEGO bricks. LEGO Boost lets you build three different bases -- a walking base to create their own robot animal, a driving base for a vehicle, an entrance base for a castle. LEGO calls this a "creative canvas" that encourages kids to think creatively and use their Boost bricks and coding skills with all manner of different creations.
LEGO Boost will come into the market in the second half of 2017, with about 160 USD retail price. Building on the company's history of merging digital programming and physical building, LEGO Boost will inspire the younger generation to build and code their way to limitless play. I think the LEGO Boost will be one of the best Christmas gifts for your kids.
