I Have a Dream
By Martin Luther King (1929-1968)
①. Isay to you today, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of todayand tomorrow, I still have a dream.
②. Itis a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one daythis nation will rise up
③. andlive out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to beself-evident; that all men are created equal."
④. Ihave a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia,
⑤. thesons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sitdown together at the table of brotherhood.
⑥. Ihave a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi,
⑦. Adesert state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat ofoppression,
⑧. will be transformedinto an oasis of freedom and justice.
⑨. I have a dream that myfour little children will one day live in a nation
⑩. wherethey will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of theircharacter. I have a dream today!
⑪. Ihave a dream that one day down in Alabama, with its vicious racists,
⑫. withits governor having his lips dripping with the words of"interposition" and "nullification,"
⑬. oneday right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able tojoin hands with little white boys and white girls
⑭. assisters and brothers. I have a dream today!
⑮. Ihave a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill andmountain shall be made low,
⑯. andrough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight,
⑰. and the glory of theLord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.
