第23届冬季奥林匹克运动会于2018年2月25日晚在平昌奥林匹克体育馆闭幕。北京市市长陈吉宁接过奥运会会旗，标志着冬奥会进入“北京周期”。2018年8月8日，2022 年北京冬奥会和冬残奥会吉祥物全球征集启动仪式在北京隆重举行。9月17日，北京2022年冬奥会吉祥物 “冰墩墩”在北京首钢冰球馆正式亮相，同时亮相的还有2022年北京冬残奥会吉祥物 “雪容融”。2019年5月10日，《北京2022年冬奥会和冬残奥会志愿服务行动计划》正式公布。
The 23rd Winter Olympics closed at the Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium on the evening of February 25th, 2018. During the closing ceremony, Chen Jining, mayor of Beijing, took over the Olympic flag, marking the start of preparations for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. On August 8, 2018, the global design competition for the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games mascots was launched. On September 17, the mascot of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games, Bing Dwen Dwen and that of Paralympic Games Shuey Rhon Rhon was officially unveiled in Beijing Shougang Ice Hockey Hall. On May 10, 2019, "The Action Plan on Volunteer Services for Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games” was officially released.
