爱花的牛 The story of Ferdinand

Once upon a time in Spain,

从前在西班牙，

There was a little bull,

有一头小公牛，

And his name was Ferdinand.

名字叫做费迪南。

All the other little bulls would run andjump and butt their heads together.

其他的公牛爱跑、爱跳、爱抵角。

But not Ferdinand.

只有费迪南不喜欢，

He liked to sit just quietly and smell theflowers.

费迪南喜欢静静地坐着，闻闻花香。

He had a favorite spot out in the pastureunder a big tree.

牧场外的大树下，是它最喜欢的地方。 

And he would sit in its shade all day andsmell the flowers.

它可以一整天都坐在树荫下，闻着花香。

Sometimes his mother would worry about him,

有时，它的妈妈会担心，

She was afraid he would be lonesome all byhimself.

担心它总是独自呆着，会太孤单。

“Why don’t you run and play with the otherlittle bulls and skip and butt your head?” she would say.

妈妈会说：“你可以和小伙伴一起玩呀，一起跳，一起抵角。"

But Ferdinand would shake his head. 费迪南摇摇头，

“I like it better here where I can sit justquietly and smell the flowers.”

"我更喜欢静静地坐着，闻闻花香。"

His mother was an understanding mother,

它妈妈是个善解人意地妈妈，

She let him just sit there and be happy.

让它自己呆着，自得其乐。

As the years went by,

一年又一年，

Ferdinand grew and grew until he was verybig and strong.

费迪南渐渐长大了，变得越来越强壮。

All the other bulls who had grown up withhim in the same pasture would fight each other all day.

那些和它一起长大地公牛们成天打架，

They would stick each other with theirhorns.

它们会用角去刺对方。

What they wanted most of all was to bepicked to fight at the bull fights in Madrid.

它们最大的心愿就是去参加马德里的斗牛大赛。

But not Ferdinand,

但是费迪南不感兴趣，

He still liked to sit just quietly underthe big tree and smell the flowers.

它还是喜欢静静得坐在大树下，闻闻花香。

One day, 

有一天，

Five men came in very funny hats

牧场里来了五个戴着奇怪帽子的人，

to pick the biggest, roughest to fight inthe bull fights in Madrid.

挑选个头最大、最凶猛的公牛去参加斗牛大赛。

All the other bulls ran around snorting andbutting, leaping and jumping

公牛们跑来跑去、跳上跳下，

so the men would think that they were veryvery strong and fierce and pick them.

只为了自己最强壮，好被选中。

Ferdinand knew that they wouldn’t pick himand he didn’t care.

费迪南知道自己不会被选中，它也不在乎。

So he went out to his favorite cork tree tosit down.

它跑到自己心爱的树下坐着，

He didn’t look where he was sitting，

它没有看就坐，

he sat on a bumble bee.

它坐到了一只大黄蜂身上 。

Well, if you were a bumble bee and bull saton you,

如果你是那只黄蜂，一只牛坐到你身上，

What would you do? 

你会怎么做？

You would sting him. 

你当然会蛰它咯。

And that is what this bee did to Ferdinand. 

大黄蜂就是这么干的。

Wow! Did it hurt! 

哇，好痛啊！

Ferdinand jumped up with a snort. 

费南迪嗖地跳了起来。

He ran around puffing and snoring buttingand pawing the ground as if he were crazy.

它跑着、跳着、不停地喷气，还拿角刨地，像疯了一样。

The five men saw him and they all shoutedwith joy.

那五个人看到了费迪南，开心地叫了起来：

Here was the largest and fiercest bull ofall.

终于找到了最大最凶猛地公牛了！

Just the one for the bull fights in Madrid! 

让它参加马德里地斗牛大赛准没错。

So they took him away for the bull fightday in a cart. 

他们把费迪南装在马车上带走了。

Bull fight begins， what a day it was! 

斗牛大赛开始了，多么热闹啊！

Flags were flying, 

彩旗飞舞着，

Bands were playing, 

乐队演奏着，

And all the lovely ladies had flowers intheir hair. 

女士们头上都戴着花。

They had a parade into the bull ring. 

他们开始进斗牛场。

Lastly， 

最后，

Then came the bull, 

公牛出场了，

And you know who that was, don’t you ?Ferdinand.

你们知道这头公牛是谁吧？费迪南。

They called him Ferdinand the Fierce andall the people were afraid of him.

他们称费迪南为凶猛之牛。

Ferdinand ran to the middle of the ring, 

费迪南跑到场中央，

And everyone shouted and clapped

观众们开始鼓掌、尖叫，

because they thought he was going to fightfiercely.

因为他们以外费迪南会凶猛地战斗。

But not Ferdinand, 

可是费迪南不会，

When he saw the flowers in all the lovelyladies hair，

当它看到女士头上地花，

and he just sat down quietly and smelled.

它只是静静地坐着，闻着花香。

He wouldn’t fight and be fierce no matterwhat. 

它怎么都不肯战斗。

He just sat and smelled. 

只是静静地坐着，闻着花香。

People are mad. 

人们很生气。

So they had to take Ferdinand home. 

他们把费迪南送回了家。

And for all I know he is sitting therestill, under his favorite big tree, smelling the flowers just quietly.

直到现在，费迪南依然坐着，坐在它心爱地树下，静静地闻着花香。

He is very happy. 

他很幸福。
