Butterfly's Wings
[00:10.48]One day a small opening appeared on a cocoon,
[00:13.99]a man sat and watched for the butterfly for several hours
[00:18.25]as it struggled to force its body through that little hole.
[00:21.97]Then it seemed to stop making any progress.
[00:26.02]It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could
[00:31.26]and it could go no further.
[00:33.90]So the man decided to help the butterfly,
[00:36.74]he took a pair of scissors
[00:38.13]and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon.
[00:41.55]The butterfly then emerged easily.
[00:44.40]But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.
[00:49.64]The man continued to watch the butterfly
[00:53.14] because he expected that,
[00:55.66]at any moment, the wings would enlarge
[00:57.91] and expand to be able to support the body,
[01:01.24]which would contract in time.
[01:03.42]Neither happened!
[01:05.18]In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around
[01:10.31]with a swollen body and shriveled wings.
[01:12.94]It never was able to fly.
[01:15.78]What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand
[01:21.03]was that the restricting cocoon
[01:23.55]and the struggle required for the butterfly
[01:25.28]to get through the tiny opening
[01:27.84]were God's way of forcing fluid
[01:30.22]from the body of the butterfly into its wings
[01:33.17]so that it would be ready for flight
[01:35.08]once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.
[01:38.10]Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life.
[01:43.89]If God allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles,
[01:48.77] it would cripple us.
[01:50.78]We would not be as strong as what we could have been.
[01:54.72]I asked for strength
[01:57.78]And God gave me difficulties to make me strong.
[02:00.62]I asked for wisdom
[02:03.36]And God gave me problems to solve.
[02:06.53]I asked for courage
[02:09.37]And God gave me danger to overcome.
[02:12.43]I asked for love
[02:14.95]And God gave me troubled people to help.
[02:18.13]I received nothing I wanted.
[02:20.97]I received everything I needed.
