When little mole poked his head out of his mole hole one day to see if the sun was shining, something very strange happened.

有一天，小鼹鼠从地下伸出头来看看天气怎么样。这时候，奇怪的事情发生了！

 (It was long and brown and looked a little bit like a hotdog. Worst of all, it landed right on top of little mole’s head.)

（一条长长的、好像香肠似的嗯嗯掉下来，糟糕的是，它正好掉在小鼹鼠的头上。）

“Who dared to drop that on my head?” shouted little mole angrily.

小鼹鼠气得大叫：“搞什么嘛！是谁嗯嗯在我的头上？”

 (But, being nearsighted as he was, he couldn’t see who done it.)

（有一个影子闪过去，但是小鼹鼠的视力不好，看不清楚到底是谁。）

Little mole asked a pigeon who just flying by, “Did you do this on my head?”

一只鸽子飞过来了，小鼹鼠问她：“是不是你嗯嗯在我的头上？”

“Me? No, not me,” answered the pigeon. “I do mine like this.”

“不是我！我的嗯嗯是这样的。”

(Splattery—splosh—a wet, white blotch landed right beside little mole, spattering his right leg.)

（鸽子说完，一团又湿又黏的白色嗯嗯，就掉在了小鼹鼠的脚边，还溅到了他的右腿上！） Then, little mole asked a horse who was grazing in the field, “Did you do this on my head?”

小鼹鼠只好跑去问牧场上吃草的马先生：“是不是你嗯嗯在我的头上？”

“Me? No,” the horse answered, “I do mine like this.”

“不是我！我的嗯嗯是这样的。”

(Bump! Thud-thud-thud! Thump! –five big fat horse droppings thundered down, just missing little mole.)

（马先生的屁股一扭，五坨又大又圆的嗯嗯咚、咚、咚……掉下来，差点儿就砸到了小鼹鼠！） 

Then little mole asked a hare who was happily munching a carrot, “Did you do this on my head?”

小鼹鼠又问一只野兔：“是不是你嗯嗯在我的头上？”

“Me? No,” said the hare. “I do mine like this.”

“不是我！我的嗯嗯是这样的。”

(Ra-ta-tat-tam- fifteen beans started flying. Little mole barely got out of the way.)

（野兔立刻转身，十五个像豆子一样的嗯嗯掉下来了，哒、哒、哒、哒……小鼹鼠一闪身，刚刚好躲了过去。）

Then Little Mole asked a goat who was day dreaming, “Did you do this on my head?”

小鼹鼠问刚睡醒的山羊：“是不是你嗯嗯在我的头上？”

“Me? No, not me,” said the goat. “I do mine like this.”

“不是我！我的嗯嗯是这样的。”

(Clackety-clackety-clack-shiny brown lumps fell onto the grass. Little mole thought they looked a lot like his favorite caramels!)

（山羊的嗯嗯，像一颗颗咖啡色的球掉在草地上。小鼹鼠心想，它们看起来好像他最爱吃的焦糖糖果！）

Then Little Mole asked a cow who was chewing her cud, “Did you do this on my head?”

小鼹鼠问正在吃草的奶牛：“是不是你嗯嗯在我的头上？”

“Me? Certainly not me,” said the cow. “I do mine like this.”

“不是我！我的嗯嗯是这样的。”

(Swush-dup-dup—a big flat cow pie splashed onto the ground. Little Mole was glad it wasn’t the cow who done it on his head!)

（稀里哗啦，奶牛的嗯嗯落到了地上，像一个又大又扁平的派。小鼹鼠很高兴不是奶牛嗯嗯在了他的头上。）

Then little mole asked a fat, pink pig, “Did you do this on my head?”

小鼹鼠又跑去问猪先生：“是不是你嗯嗯在我的头上？”

“Me? Not me,” answered the pig, “I do mine like this.”

“不是我！我的嗯嗯是这样的。”

(Splidgedy-splodge-a soft brown, smelly heap landed at his feet. Pee-ew! Little mole had to hold his nose.)

（猪先生立刻“噗”一声，掉下一坨软软的嗯嗯。小鼹鼠捂着鼻子跑开了！）

Little mole looked around for another suspect, but all he saw were two fat flies dining!

小鼹鼠继续到处找可疑的动物，但他只看见了两只又肥又大的苍蝇在吃他们的大餐！

 “At long last,” Little mole thought, “I bet they can help me.”

小鼹鼠想：“啊哈！我知道谁可以帮助我了。”

“Can you tell me who did this on my head?” asked Little Mole.

他兴奋地问苍蝇，“你能告诉我到底是谁嗯嗯在了我的头上吗？”

“Keep still a second,” buzzed the two flies, busily studying what was on top of Little Mole’s head.

 “你乖乖坐好，我们试试看就知道了！”苍蝇说，然后研究了一下他头上的嗯嗯。

A moment later, they shouted triumphantly, “No question about it. It was a dog!”

不一会儿，他们就大喊道：“哈！太简单了，这是一坨狗大便！”

Now Little Mole was sure who done it on his head. Henry! That old hound dog!

小鼹鼠终于知道是谁嗯嗯在他的头上了！好哇！原来是那只叫亨利的大狗！

As quick as a flash, Little Mole climbed on top of Henry’s doghouse.

小鼹鼠来到亨利的狗屋前。一眨眼，他就爬到了屋顶上。

(Pling!—a little brown crescent landed slap-dab in the middle of Henry’s forehead.)

（“噗哧”一声，一粒小小的、黑黑的嗯嗯掉下来了，正好掉在大狗的脑门上。）

The deed done, a happy and satisfied Little Mole disappeared back into his mole hole.

做完这件事，小鼹鼠心满意足，钻回他的鼹鼠洞去了！
