China plans to boost digital economy
'十四五'数字经济发展规划印发

China's State Council on Wednesday rolled out a plan to facilitate development of the digital economy in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). The country aims to raise the proportion of the added value of core digital economy industries in its GDP to 10% in 2025, up from 7.8% in 2020, according to the plan. By 2025, China will see the digital transformation of industries reach a new level, digital public services will become more inclusive, and the digital economy governance system will improve noticeably. 
国务院1月12日印发《"十四五"数字经济发展规划》。到2025年，数字经济核心产业增加值占国内生产总值比重将从2020年的7.8%增加到10%，产业数字化转型迈上新台阶，数字化公共服务更加普惠均等，数字经济治理体系更加完善。

It details key tasks in eight areas, including optimizing and upgrading digital infrastructure, pushing forward the digital shift of enterprises, and expanding international cooperation on the digital economy. According to the document, China will strengthen its support of 6G research and development, enhance innovation in strategic fields such as integrated circuits and artificial intelligence, and facilitate the development of new business modes. The country will also explore establishing regulations in the fields of cross-border data flows, market access, anti-monopoly work, the digital yuan and privacy protection in the digital era, drawing on international rules and experience.  
《规划》部署了优化升级数字基础设施、大力推进产业数字化转型、有效拓展数字经济国际合作等8个方面重点任务。《规划》提出，要加大6G技术研发支持力度，增强集成电路、人工智能等关键技术创新能力，加快培育新业态新模式。积极借鉴国际规则和经验，围绕数据跨境流动、市场准入、反垄断、数字人民币、数据隐私保护等重大问题探索建立治理规则。

China's CPI rises 1.5% in Dec
12月CPI同比上涨1.5%

China's consumer price index rose by 1.5% year-on-year in December, down from 2.3% in the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Wednesday. The slower growth of consumer inflation was mainly attributed to the decline in food prices, with pork price dropping 36.7% year-on-year in December. 
国家统计局1月12日发布数据显示，2021年12月份，全国居民消费价格指数同比上涨1.5%，涨幅比上月回落0.8个百分点。全国居民消费价格指数涨幅回落主要是由于猪肉等食品价格下降。食品中，猪肉价格下降36.7%。

Prices of industrial consumer goods also saw slower growth, rising 2.9% year-on-year, according to NBS. The country's whole-year consumer inflation grew slower than expected, up 0.9% year-on-year. Meanwhile, China's producer price index rose 10.3% year-on-year in December, down from 12.9% in the previous month, NBS said.
非食品中，工业消费品价格上涨2.9%，涨幅回落。2021年全年，全国居民消费价格指数比上年上涨0.9%，涨幅低于预期。2021年12月份，工业生产者出厂价格指数(PPI)同比上涨10.3%，涨幅比上月回落2.6个百分点。

BFA to hold its 2022 annual conference
博鳌亚洲论坛将于春季举办年会

The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Secretariat held a press conference in Beijing on Jan 12 for its 2022 annual conference, where Secretary General Li Baodong talked about preparations for the conference. Li confirmed that BFA will hold its annual conference in the spring at Boao of Hainan Province as usual, where leaders and government officials of various countries, including the host country China, politicians, heads of international organizations, guests from business and academia, as well as the media will gather and discuss the post-pandemic development agenda for Asia and the world. 
1月12日，博鳌亚洲论坛秘书处在北京召开2022年年会新闻发布会，论坛秘书长李保东介绍了论坛年会筹备情况。李保东表示，博鳌亚洲论坛将按惯例于2022年春季在海南博鳌举行年会，邀请包括东道国中国在内的国家和政府领导人、政府官员、国际组织负责人、企业代表、专家学者和媒体人士出席会议，共商疫后亚洲与全球发展大计。

This year’s annual conference will be an on-site occasion supplemented with online links. The exact date for the conference is yet to be released. Li emphasized the necessity to actively seize and rein in the post-pandemic development trend with a forward-looking perspective, despite the uncertainty over when the pandemic would be over.
年会将以线上线下相结合的方式举办，具体日期将在与东道国协商确定后尽快公布。李保东强调，虽然现在很难断言疫情什么时候会彻底结束，但我们必须着眼未来，积极把握和推动疫后世界发展大势。

Hainan records surging duty-free shopping
海南离岛免税购物消费火爆

The southern Chinese island province of Hainan reported 49.5 billion yuan in offshore duty-free shopping in 2021, up 80% year-on-year, with more than 70 million items bought by 6.72 million shoppers. The per capita shopping amount registered in the offshore duty-free shops (DFS) of Hainan logged 7,368 yuan, an increase of 20.2% from 2020. Cosmetics, watches, and jewelry were among the top three best-sellers for the shops. Notably, the island's number of DFS customers last year increased by approximately 50% year-on-year and the number of items they bought soared by 107%. 
2021年，海南离岛免税购物金额495亿元，与上年相比增长80%，购物人数672万人次，购物件数7000余万件。人均购物金额7368元，与上年相比增长20.2%。其中，化妆品、手表、首饰的销售额位居前三。2021年，海南离岛免税购物人数、购物件数与上年相比分别增长近50%和107%。

Three more duty-free shops opened last year in Hainan, raising the total number to 10. These shops host more than 720 brands in a total shopping area of 220,000 square meters. Since July 1, 2020, Hainan has raised its annual tax-free shopping quota from 30,000 yuan to 100,000 yuan per person.
2021年海南新增离岛免税店3家，截至目前离岛免税店已增至10家，各免税店品牌进驻数量超过720个，免税店经营面积达22万平方米。自2020年7月1日起，海南离岛旅客每年每人免税购物额度从每年每人3万元提高至10万元。
