Cao Cao had given him a rank asSupernumerary Leader and now was disposed to make use of him. 原来刘岱旧为兖州刺史；及操取兖州，岱降于操，操用为偏将，故今差他与王忠一同领兵。Cao Cao himself took command of a largearmy of two hundred thousand troops for a simultaneous attack on Yuan Shao atLiyang. 操却自引大军二十万，进黎阳，拒袁绍。Adviser Cheng Yu said, "The two LiuDai and Wang Zhong sent against Liu Bei are unequal to their task.""I know," said Cao Cao.
