I'm always talking about the weather in England, aren’t I? I know I do. And today's really really hot for England.

One of my little students this morning said, “Don't you just put the air conditioning on?” No, because we don't have air conditioning in England, and the reason is that it's never really hot enough.

For our heating, we have fires, you can just see the one behind me. And we have radiators which pump hot water around the house. But Britain is normally a cold country, so it doesn't get very hot.

But today, it is, outside 30 degrees, which is really really unusual. And because we don't have any air conditioning in Britain - we do in shops and hotels - but we don't in the houses.

I don't know anyone, not one person, of all the people I know, and of all the people I've ever known that have air conditioning in their houses. We just don't need it.

So the only way we keep cool in the summer, is that we openthe windows which lets all the hot air in. It's not very good. And sometimes we have fans blowing, which you can might be able to hear, because I've got to put one on today.

And when it's really hot, you don't have much energy. You don't really want to do anything apart from sitting in the pool, or be in the garden, or have an ice-lolly or an ice-cream.

And I don't...it's not much fun if you're working, proper work outside, building houses, working on the farms. That work in the heat is not much fun, and you have to be really strong to do that work.

And when it's really hot, we often don't feel very strong, we feel the opposite, which is weak, oh...it's too hot.

So the story we're going to look at, guess what, it's all about somebody called Mr Strong. When I was a little boy, this was one of my favorites. I always loved the storyof Mr Happy which we've looked at, and I always loved this story as well. It's Mr strong.

And “strong” means you can pick really heavy things up, you're strong. But maybe with this story, I want you to think about there is a different type of being strong.

We can be strong in our bodies like Mr Strong, but sometimes we can be strong in our minds, and that can be working hard, doing your best. But also, sometimes strong in our mind can be being a little bit brave.
我们可以像强壮先生那样拥有有强壮的体魄，但有时我们也可以在思想上变得强壮，比如努力工作，全力以赴做某件事情。但是，有时我们在内心上的强壮也意味着勇敢。
So sometimes if you fall over and you hurt yourself, someone might say in England, “Oh, come on, be strong”. It doesn't mean...Mr Muscles, it means be brave.

Or things are going really badly, and you've had a really bad day, we might say, “Come on, be strong” meaning don't let it upset you, try to be a bit brave, don't worry.

So in this story it's about strong in muscles, but remember, you can also be strong in your mind.

Sometimes, if somebody tells us to do something which we know is wrong, and we think, “Oh, shall we do it?”, we sometimes also say, “Be strong”.
有时，如果有人让我们做一些我们知道是错误的事情，我们会想：“哦，我们应该这样做吗？”，我们有时也会对这样的自己说：“要坚定”。
So being strong can mean doing the good thing, the right thing. And sometimes we don't do that, sometimes we're embarrassed. Someone's looking sad in class, and we should be strong and say, “Are you okay? Come and play with me!” Sometimes we don't, we go, “Oh...I'll let someone else do it.” So sometimes strong can mean that as well.

I bet you're the type of person who's strong like this, but also strong in their mind. Sometimes we say “strong in your heart” that showing kindness, and doing the right thing. Doing the right thing, sometimes very difficult. So I want you to think about that when we're reading our Mr Strong story.
我敢打赌你是一个强壮的人，同时也是意志坚定的人。有时我们会说“stronginmind”，这表现在敢于表达善意，敢于做正确的事情之上。有时候，想要做正确的事是非常困难的。所以在听强壮先生的故事时，我希望你能思考下这个问题。
And here he is. Look, he's square, and he's red, and he's got a green hat. He looks very silly, doesn't he?

「This is the story of Mr Strong. 」

「Mr Strong is the strongest person in the whole wide world. 」

「The strongest person there has ever been, and probably the strongest person there ever will be. 」

「He is so strong, he cannot only bend an iron bar with his bare hands, but he can tie a knot in it!」
「他是如此的强壮，不仅可以徒手弯曲铁棒，甚至还可以给铁棒打一个结。」
He looks very strong. And look at these words here, “the whole wide world”. Can you see the letter begins with a “w”, “the whole wide world”.
他看起来很强壮。看看这个词组，“the whole wide world”。你能够看到有三个以“w”开头的单词，“the whole wide world”。
It’s quite clever when people do that in their writing. It's got a very long name, it's called alliteration, but it's actually just makes it sound nice. We sometimes say, the rolls off our tongue.
这是非常聪明的一种写作手法，这种写作手法有一个很长的名字，叫做“头韵法”，实际上就是让词语听起来非常不错。我们有时候会说这读起来朗朗上口。
The whole wide world. It's like a little poem, almost like a song. It's quite a nice little phrase. If you're ever writing about the world, sometimes “the whole wide world” makes it sound more interesting.
“the whole wide world”。它就像一首小诗，几乎像一首小歌曲。这是一个很好的词组。当你需要写与“world”（世界）有关的文章时，如果将其写作“the whole wide world”（全世界），有时会让它听起来更加有趣。
「Mr Strong is so strong that he can throw a cannonballas far as you or I can throw a tennis ball!」

So a cannonball, in the olden days, is a big round, very very heavy ball that was fired out of a cannon. And they used to have them on ships, and it would blow up the other ships it would smash a hole right through the ship, and the ship would sink.

And they're so heavy, you wouldn't be able to pick them up, well I wouldn't be able to. But he can throw it as far as we can I could throw a tennis ball, that's strong. Look, the poor bird, he's nearly hit it. Oh dear, silly Mr Strong.

Now that last words they're really good as well. “Strong by name”, that is his name, and “strong by nature”, meaning that he that's how he behaves, very strong by the way he is. Be like someone being called Mr Little and who was also very little, we would say “little by name, and little by nature”.
最后这句话的表达方式也非常棒。“Strong by name”，那是他的名字，“strong by nature”意思是他也的行为举止也是表现得如此强壮。就像奇先生的另一个角色——小小先生一样，他因为非常小，所以我们可以说他“小小先生人如其名”。
If you were called Mr Little and you were very tall, we couldn't say “little by name, little by nature” because “little by nature” would mean he had to be small, and if he's not little, it wouldn't work. But Mr Strong is called Mr Strong, and he is strong.
不过，要是你的名字叫小小先生，实际上却非常高大的话，我们就不能说“小小先生人如其名”了。因为“人如其名”意味着他必须也是小小只的，如果他是个大高个儿，这就行不通了。而强壮先生名副其实，他的名字如此，行为举止也是如此。
「And would you like to know the secret of Mr Strong’s strength? Eggs!」
「你想知道强壮先生如此强壮的秘诀是什么吗？是鸡蛋！」
「The more eggs Mr Strong eats, the stronger he becomes. Stronger and stronger and stronger!」
「强壮先生吃的鸡蛋越多，他就会越强壮。越吃越强壮，越吃越强壮。」
How many eggs is he going to eat, can you count them? Oh, I think it's about eighteen, but you can probably count even better than me.
你能（从绘本中）数出来他打算吃掉多少个鸡蛋吗？哦，我想大约是十八个，但你可能比我数得更准确。
Would you be able to eat that many eggs for breakfast? I don't think I would.

I think I could have one, maybe two, I don't think I could eat three eggs. I wonder whether you could? And look at Mr Strong's tongue is sticking out. He's loving the eggs.
