Atlas Hangs On

本期登高老师阅读的是一个叫阿特拉斯的男孩想医好生病的鸟，攀登上裂痕累累的月亮树的顶端。当树枝断裂，要倒下的时候，是应该放手呢，还是继续坚持 一直抓住树的边缘不放的故事。

《Atlas Hangs On》阿特拉斯的坚持

Atlas loved the Lunar Tree,

but it was old and crackled in the sun.

阿特拉斯喜欢月球树，但它已经很老了而且在阳光的暴晒下裂痕累累。

Climbing to the top he moved hand-over-hand to where a sick bird clung.

"If I fix him I can fix this tree."

But the branch grew thin and Atlas hung still, through the day with the sun and the birds and into the night with the moon and the stars.

阿特拉斯双手交替着攀爬到顶端，树的顶端有一只生病的鸟。

“如果我医好了它，我也可以治疗这棵树。”

但是树枝变得越来越细，阿特拉斯一直挂着，和鸟儿一起，从白天到黑夜。

Until CRACK! 

he fell through branches and away went the birds and away went the tree to fall to dust.Atlas grabbed hold of the edge.

直到树枝断裂！他穿过层层树枝往下掉， 像是要摔倒地上，鸟儿也飞走了。阿特拉斯抓住了树的边缘。

Atlas cried for the fallen tree and was worried for the birds;they were far away lost to the universe.

阿特拉斯为倒下的树叫了起来并为那些鸟担心;他们迷失在了宇宙里。

And he was scared and all alone,the birds and the Lunar Tree were gone and they were all he'd known.

他一个人很孤单很害怕，鸟儿和月亮树都没了，而他们是他唯一有的陪伴了。

Hanging on he looked up into the night and to four strange lights among the stars.

They came and spoke one by one...

他挂在那儿抬头看向夜空，看到天空中挂着四颗星星发着奇特的光。

他们一个接一个地说话...

Venus dances to the sound of sad feelings that she hears,and faster she whirls round and round.

金星在阿特拉斯悲伤的话语中翩翩起舞，而且她旋转地越来越快

Venus said:“Please stop being afraid. Youmust stop your hanging on!”

I‘m not letting go!” Atlas cried.

金星说：“你必须停止害怕的情绪，并学会放手”。

我不放手！“阿特拉斯大声地说。

Mr. Mars red and raw fixes everything,grumpy being old and sore but happy when he's helping.

火红色的火星先生从来都可以解决一切问题，他虽然因为自己变得老态龙钟而脾气暴躁，但是当他给别人提供帮助的时候很开心。

Mars said:

“Young man you will let go of the edge, there is nothing else to do."

"Let go! Let go rubbish!' Atlas said,"If I let go Tm going to fall and falling is the worst thing of all!"

火星说：“年轻人， 除了放手你别无他法”。“放手？我不会放手的！”阿特拉斯说，“如果我放手我就会掉下去，掉下去是最糟糕的事情！”

Pluto small but bright and bold playing with his friends,rushes past and disappears but hurries back again.

冥王星虽小但明亮，胆子也很大，喜欢和他的朋友一起玩冲过去消失然后又冲回来。

Pluto said:

"Falling down is not so bad,your friends will lift you up!"

冥王星说：

“掉下去没有那么糟糕，你的朋友会把你举起来的！”

“My friends are gone, gone to theuniverse” Atlas said, worried once more for the birds who had lost their home.

He thought of how hanging on to the tree had ruined everthing.

“Hanging on is the worst thing of all.I should let go I think."

“我的朋友都走了，在宇宙中迷失了“阿特拉斯说，又一次因想起失去家园的鸟儿们而为他们担心。

他想起都是因为自己非要抓着月球树不放而毁了一切。“一直抓着不放是最糟糕的事情了。我想我应该放手了。”

But now Mother Earth spoke up andsaid:

“I don’t know what you should do and I don't know what to say, I think you've held on far too long but your friends are on the way."

但是现在地球母亲说话了：

“我不知道你应该做什么，我不知道该和你说什么

但我想你已经坚持太久了，而你的朋友都已经向前走了。”

And in the heavens the shining starsgrew great into flapping birds that swept down to the edge.

在天上闪亮的星星，变成成扑翼的鸟儿，扫过树的边缘。

"My friends!" beamed Atlas, no longer afraid.

“我的朋友们！”阿特拉斯一下子精神抖擞，再也不害怕了。

Letting go he held out one arm and then the other and was lifted away.

Far awav from the edge to a garden he had never seen before.

他一只一只放开抱着月球树的手，被鸟儿带着飞走了。飞到了一个很远很远的他从未见过的花园。

He sat in the grass as the birds flocked round a sproutling sprouting from the ground.

They had found a tiny Lunar.

Tree curled up under the moon and sea of stars far overhead.

Atlas laughed remembering what the planets had said.

他坐在草地上，鸟围绕在一起，新芽从地面上发芽。

他们找到了一个小小的月球树在月光下卷曲着和远远的星光点点的海。

阿特拉斯笑了起来， 突然想起了行星们说的话。

He was glad the night had been clear.

他很庆幸那天晚上天空很清澈。
