Welcome back. After I received a fine set of watercolour paints and brushes. I started to try watercolour painting. I read books and watched videos to learn how to make the colours I wanted and learn how to use a round brush. I’ve selected four flower paintings that I made to match the topic I’ve been talking about. The first one is Three Daisies, which is one of my favourite works. The contrasting background colours really bring out the three white flowers, simple but delicate. The warm yellow makes you think about the warm spring sun and the blue sky. The organic shape of the flowers make you feel the subtle breeze mingled with the fragrance of the flowers and herbs. Resplendent, that’s the word I recall of the spring in my memory.
Three Daises三朵雏菊
The second painting is the three daffodils. Daffodils also known as Narcissus always make me think of two stories. One is the Greek myth. The young Narcissus was gazing at the pond and feel in love with his own reflection which lead to his death when he fell in the pond. After his death, he turned into the flower.
Three Daffodils三朵水仙
The other story happened in the UK. Some Chinese people were poisoned by eatingyellow daffodils. I’ll just show you some pictures of how daffodils are sold inthe supermarket in the UK. No wonder some Chinese people got them mixed up withgarlic sprouts.

About the next flower – poppy, I’ll read a poem to you. This poem was written by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae during the First World War.
In Flanders fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
Thelarks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
Thetorch; be yours to hold it high.
Ifye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Poppies罂粟花
Nowthe red poppy has become the world’s most recognised memorial symbol forsoldiers who have died in conflict. Here is a picture that was taken outsideThe Tower of London on the 11th of November which is Remembrance Day in the UK.

Now the last painting is of an iris. This word actually has many meanings. It can means part of the eye, a colour, an insect, and a Greek goddess.
An Iris一朵鸢尾
At the end, I’ll share with you a famous painting that I like, irises by Vincent Van Gogh. Thank you for listening. See you next time.
