Keeping happiness of others’ in mind, there will be no adverse situations.
【Xian’er says so: “what to do when faced with setbacks?”】
Xian’er runs into some setback again. He climbed to the top of a mountain, alone in sadness.
The more he thought about it, the more aggrieved he felt.
By the cliff, a small tree growing out of rock cracks could not help weeping.
Xian’er asked,’What is your story? ”
The tree answered: “I’m the most unfortunate tree in the whole world.
I grow in an awful environment, in between rock cracks. And I look ugly for I can’t fully stretch my branches. I may look strong but I am in a living hell.”
Xian’er asked: “As such, what is the point of staying alive?”
The tree continued: “It’s easy to die.
But there’s a nest above my head where two magpies live.
This is their home where they live and have a family.
If I die, what would happen to them? ”
Having heard this, Xian’er came to an understanding.
He returned to the monastery and continued his work of cleaning toilets.

常为他人着想，世间就无逆境

【贤二如是说：遇到挫折怎么办】

贤二又遇到挫折，便爬到山顶独自伤心。
越想越委屈，越想越伤心。
崖边石缝里长着一株低矮的树，
也不禁哭起来。
贤二问：“难道你也有不幸？”
小树说：“我是世上最苦命的树，
长在岩石的缝隙中，环境恶劣，
枝干无法伸展，形貌丑陋。
我看似坚强无比，其实是生不如死呀！”
贤二说：“既然如此，为何还要苟活？”
小树说：“死倒也容易，
但我的头上有一个鸟巢，住着两只喜鹊，
它们在巢里栖息生活，繁衍后代。
我要是不在了，那两只喜鹊怎么办呢？”
贤二听了，有所领悟，
就下山回寺里接着刷马桶。

心里装着他人的安乐，
受益的不光是他人，
还包括我们自己。
