The UK's Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle tied the knot Saturday at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

An emotional-looking prince and his smiling bride exchanged vows and rings before the Queen and 600 guests.

Markle, wearing a white boat-neck dress by British designer Clare Waight Keller, was walked down the aisle by Prince Charles.

All of Markle's bridesmaids and pageboys were children, including Princess Charlotte and her brother, Prince George. Prince William was the best man.

After the service, the newlyweds traveled in an open carriage as part of a 25-minute procession from St George's Chapel through Windsor town.

An estimated 100,000 people lined the carriage procession route, waiting to wave and cheer at the new royal couple. The prince takes on the title Duke of Sussex and his bride, the newest member of the British royal family, has become the Duchess of Sussex.

Ways to make people like you

If you want to make a great first impression - and why wouldn't you? - you know there are basic steps you can take: Smile, make eye contact, listen more than you talk, ask questions about the other person.

Anyone can do those things. But what you might not know is that if you think other people are going to like you, they usually will.

As research shows, interpersonal warmth explains the self-fulfilling prophecy of anticipated acceptance; study participants who expected to be accepted were perceived as more likable.

Or in non-researcher speak, when you think other people will like you, you act more naturally and come across as friendlier - which then makes people like you more since we tend to like warm, friendly people.

So how can you convince yourself that people will like you? Positive self-talk like "they're going to love me!" won't cut it.

Instead, close your eyes, take a deep breath, and commit to taking a few steps that ensure almost anyone will like you.

1. Give a genuine compliment.

2. Focus on letting people talk about themselves.

3. Change one word.

4. Show a little vulnerability.

The secret behind the Pisa

New research has revealed how the Italian iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa has managed to stay standing – and intact – in the face of four strong earthquakes and a precarious lean of five degrees.

A research group of 16 engineers at the University of Bristol has now discovered that the considerable height and stiffness of the Tower, combined with the softness of the foundation soil, ensure it doesn't resonate with earthquake ground motion.

"Ironically, the very same soil that caused the leaning instability and brought the Tower to the verge of collapse, can be credited for helping it survive these seismic events," said Professor Mylonakis, head of the Earthquake and Geotechnical Engineering Research Group at the University of Bristol.

Squirrels store food in cars

A Michigan resident was stunned to discover 50 pounds of pine cones stashed under the hood of his vehicle. Gabe Awrey, a manager at a nearby restaurant said his friend Kellen Moore came into work at the restaurant with a strange look on his face.

After asking what had happened, Awrey walked along with Moore to his recently purchased car, opened the hood and discovered the engine bay packed with pine cones.

It took the two about 45 minutes to clear the engine bay of debris. "He bought this car used about a month and a half ago. There were none then," Awrey said. Awrey and Moore both agree the squirrels are responsible for the stockpile.

"This stuff happens a lot up here," Awrey said. "It's the perfect set up for a squirrel though. Nice and insulated. Pretty practical until your nest drives away."
