Today’s program is adapted from Amazon’s TV series Modern Love.
I、
“Sunrise is for lovers and bakers.”
Jasmine loved this quote, so much that she posted it on her Instagram.
她对于社交媒体有一种不健康的痴迷，对此我损了她很久。But I will never tell her that I love it as well.
我和Jasmine相遇在某个落雨的夜晚。雨点淅沥砸在咖啡馆的雨遮上，她缩在角落的盆栽边。Hangbag over her head, beige knitted sweater, and damped hair. 她有些狼狈，但她看起来美极了。
“Have you ever thought about what kind of superpower you want? Like, if it is possible.”
She looked at me and laughed.“No. Why?”
“Well, I know what I want, especially on a day like this, the ability to be waterproof.”
She laughed even harder. “That sounds like a rushed decision.”
“No, it’s not. It has been through thoughtful consideration. You know what, let me buy you a cup of cafe and I’ll explain my reasons to you.”
她接受了，这就是我们的第一次约会，我们约定会有下一次。
We had our second date at a hospital.
那是一个意外，在倒酒时，我的脚打滑了，我伸手试图扶住桌子，却碰倒了桌上的酒瓶。The bottle fell on my arm and shattered into pieces, sliding my skin and leaving it bleeding.
Jasmine called 911 immediately.
我在医用酒精的气味中醒来，手臂疼得要命。我调整了一下模糊的视线，Jasmine坐在扶手椅里,低头读着一本书。
“Hello, are you an angel? Am I in heaven?”
She looked up and smiled at me.
“Well, look who’s awake. How are you feeling tiger?”
“Sore, and thirsty. A helping hand?”
她扶着我坐进了轮椅里，推着我穿梭过医院的走廊，在食堂里，我要了一瓶水，她要了个苹果。
“Sorry that I made a fool of myself. I did that all the time. I got nervous and messed something up. This date is not ideal and I apologize.”
她看向我，拿起苹果咬了口。
“Do you remember the first time we met, you asked me something about dream superpower?”
“Yeah?”
“I want the superpower to be invisible.”
“Really? But... You are like a sparkle, a light that never fades.”
“And to always look good to maintain that kind of attention? It’s exhausting.”
“Well, you look stunning to me no matter what.”
“Really? Even though right now my shirt is stained by blood and my makeup is totally ruined?”
“Really,” I said, steady and firm.
我们都笑了起来，尽管我们的形象都很不得体。我穿着医院的病服，手臂上打着石膏。她的衬衫上沾上了血，头发一团乱。
窗外开始下雨了。雨丝从城市的夜空中飘落下来，在灯光的照映下微微泛白。它们舞动、跳跃着，像城市涌动的脉搏。
“Well, I guess I’m stuck here with you tonight.”She said.
“It’s fine. You can rest here.”
她眨了眨眼，将头枕在了我的膝盖上。
我看向医院的窗口，地平线最远的地方还是一片深邃。不过没关系，再等一等，明天又会是一个晴朗喧嚣的都市清晨。
II、
To me, marriage was like an old house, at some point, it would be dusted, tilting, with crippled pipes and broken windows. Eventually, the house crashed, and my marriage came to an end.
和Nick分手时我的心里很不好受，我们花了很长时间来维持这段感情，我们有一个刚出生的孩子。但，至少，当我质问他的不忠时，他没有否认。
It was the right thing to do.
Still, I got a lot of things to get off my chest. 在工作、家务和一个新生儿之间，我需要一个倾听者。
As a therapist, Dr. Alison was good at her job. As a manager, not so much. Otherwise, she would be more careful with her selection of clients, and Spence and I would never have met.

Spence was the husband of the woman that Nick cheated on me with.
Looking back, it might be inappropriate to invite Spence to lunch that day. But, Spence knew what I was going through. He understood my situation. And I understood his. Who knows, maybe we could help each other.
Spence is a man who likes to live his life according to plans. He told me about all the designs he had with Jennie, his ex-wife.
这不难理解，人们常说，在合适的时间做合适的事，学习，就业，购房，成家...Day after day you envision the life you would have, someday in the future. And before you realized it, you became a divorced woman with a toddler to attend to, who, obligatorily, is not allowed to have fun.
So I said to him. “Screw characters.”
当晚我们一起去了家餐厅，点了牛排、红酒和冰淇淋。我们相谈甚欢。
Call me crazy. But when Spence offered me a ride home, I accepted. 返程车中，我向他提起，雷雨过后，浴室的灯就不亮了。
And he fixed it. He fixed my house.
和Spence道别后，我走进浴室，又试了试灯，暖黄色的灯光一直倾泻到走廊上。我坐在浴缸边沿，思考着人生短暂且艰难。
Unexpectedly, our friendship continued.
He helped me fix my doorsteps, I did his haircut. Did I tell you he looked like a total mess the day we met? Long unkempt hair, unshaven and shabby. A sad, frustrated man.
He and I both needed a fresh start.
A lightning stroke and it started to pour.
对于一个车刚坏掉、孩子正在发高烧的母亲来说，这个下雨的时机糟糕透了。
我打电话给了Nick，他说他出差了，不在城里。
So I called Spence.
Fifteen minutes later, he showed up at my door with his car parked on the side of the road.
我的孩子得了脑膜炎。
这是一种在新生儿中很常见的疾病，同时很危险。令人庆幸的是，在及时的治疗后，他会恢复健康的。
我很感谢Spence.没人知道，如果没有他的帮忙，事情会发展成什么样。
I thought we made a pretty good team.

That’s what I said to Spence. A tall, quiet man holding a “Get well soon” balloon in a rainy hospital.
I hugged him. 雨幕将城市联结成一条线。
III、
我第一次见到她时，她光彩照人，有如盛夏的果实、煦日的阳光。
She was smelling peaches in the supermarket, oblivious to the surrounding noises and other customers passing by, still, she looked at me and said,
“Hi.”
“Hi,” I answered.
“Do you know what I love the most about morning supermarket? It’s unpredictable. Like, nobody is expecting to find love here, which makes it the perfect location to find love. No one is here to seek easy laid or quick romance. No cards in the sleeve and no scheme. It’s real. It’s authentic. It’s full of surprises.”
“Like peaches.”I smiled.
“Yes! Like peaches.”She said. Eyelashes flashing, with a twinkle in her eyes, shimmering.
She looked like Anne Hathaway.
And we hit it off just like that, like the ignition and light.
She was quirky, confident, humorous, and passionate. She was everything a man could ever ask for.
我们相约一起去看电影，是老片子，瑞塔海华斯的《上海小姐》。年华逝去，光影留存，黑与白的镜头下，昔日的爱之女神依旧美得令人侧目。
“Men fell in love with Gilda, but they woke up with me.”
“Pardon?”
“That’s what she said, Rita. A goddess on-screen but a sad soul in love.”
I didn't fully understand her back then.
电影散场后，我送她回家。
夜色旖旎，纽约城中的每个人都在路灯下相依。人经行处，香气、欢笑、杯觥，汇成一首秋季的恋曲。
这世上有那么多种爱，它们复杂、交织、惶惑，但总有一种爱独属于我。
都市里聚集了这么多的人，形形色色，摩肩接踵。而在茫茫人海中，他们却能找到彼此,在每一个日落的夜晚，怀里都有人依偎。
What a magical world.
I looked at her. Her hazel eyes and breathtaking smile glistening.
She is the one. I thought.她就是那个独属于我的和弦。
那天之后，我一直盼着能再见到她。
But she didn't show up for our next date.
I tried to call her, there was no response.
I came to her house to knock on her door. Nobody answered. Eventually, my effort was proved futile.
A few days later, I received her text, saying that she might need to take a break.
我和她没再联系了。
直到有一天晚上，我在一家交友网站上看到了她的资料。
In her profile, she said she had been struggling with bipolar disorder since she was sixteen. It’s a psychological disease that would significantly influence one’s personality.
生活于她，就如平衡木的两端，随时都可能从大喜坠入极悲。而当她陷入低谷时，情绪像阴云一样将她压倒在床，使她无法做任何事。
But she had been feeling better. She had found the right dose of medicine to help her control her symptom.
I sent a message to her.
“Hi.”
“Hi.” She replied.
“It’s been a while.”
“That’s correct.”
“Do you remember all the fun we had? I thought we had a connection.”
The last reply took her longer to respond.
“...I know it didn’t end well with us last time. But, do you want to maybe grab a cafe sometime? I want to get to know you. And this time, with me being more open and honest.”
“Yes.”
我站在窗前，举目眺望，视线透过曼哈顿瓢泼的雨幕，穿过川流不息的车潮，这座城市的千万个窗口中，是否也有一炬目光，回望着我？
斑驳的霓虹灯里，我的心跳如雷鸣的鼓点，寻找着，寻找着，那颗永远为我雀跃的心脏。
