Part A
Directions：
You will hear 10 short dialogues.
For each dialogue， there is one question and four possible answers. 
Choose the correct answerA， B， C or D， and mark it in your test booklet. 
You will have 15 seconds to answer the question and you will hear each dialogue ONLY ONCE.
 
1.W:  The article said scientists have found a new benefit of green tea.
M: I've been told that green tea can lower the risks of heart disease, stoke and cancers.
W: Besides that, its good for memory. And it helps fall down eating of the brain.


2.W: Oh, my neck is stiff.
M: You should stand up and stretch your legs. Who can sit in front of the screen for ten hours without a break?
W: Come on, Jim! You know my report is till tomorrow.


3.M: Ive been worried that Richard is frozen.
W: What sounds to be a problem?
M: Well, he has trouble concentrating when getting along with other children. 
I was wondering there might be something on his mind. Some problem at home?


4.W:  Sally, why are people now do business more and more?
M: Right, I have to be on the flight every week.
W: Wow, I really envy you.
M: Don't envy me. In fact, Im sick of restaurant food. Sometimes I just want a homecook meal.


5.M: Oh, just look at these people! They are really listening to the music. They are driving me mad.
W: Can’t you see that this is the real communication between the musician and the audience?  
Listen to our music. It belongs to our generation.
M: Well, it may be your music, but it certainly isn’t mine. I’m going for a cup of coffee.


6.M: I was shocked when I heard you had finished your research project a whole month earlier.
W: How I managed to do it? Its still a mystery to me.


7.M: How long have you been in this country?
W: Two months, exactly.
M: Is it hard for you to study at the American College?
W: Yes, I find it very difficult, especially when I cannot follow the professor's lectures.
M: That's because you just arrived.


8.W:  Why are you so upset, David?
M: My boss warned me not to spend all day communicating with my friends, but I didn't. He just didn't believe me.
W: You must have forgotten to close your hotmail's window again. You should have known better.


9.M: What do you think of my new suit?
W: Not bad. It reminds me of the one I saw at the new department store last week. Did you get it there?
M: No, I got it in that big shopping center. It cost me only $150.
W: Well, I don't think it's a good bargain.


10.W:My mother got really annoyed with my father yesterday evening.
M: Why? Did she complain about his cooking?
W: Oh no. It was about watching television.
M: Don't tell me he fell asleep in front of the television.
W: No, he kept changing channels on the remote.


Part B
Directions：
You will hear four dialogues or monologues.
Before listening to each one， you will have 5 seconds to read each of the questions which accompany it. 
While listening， answer each question by choosing A， B， C or D. 
After listening， you will have 10 seconds to check your answer to each question.
You will hear the recording ONLY ONCE. 
Questions 11-13 are based on the following conversation.


W: Hi, James, do you think it’s possible for us to have a talk sometime today?
M: I’d love to, Maggie. But I’ve got a very tight schedule today.
W: Oh, what have you got to do?
M: Well, I’ve got to finish a report by 10. Then I have to drive to the airport and pick up my boss  at 11. 
After that, we’ll have a meeting over lunch. I guess I won’t have a break until 2 o’clock. 
But then from 3 until 5 I have to attend another meeting.
W: Wow, that’s really tough.
M: I think I’ve got some time tomorrow. How about talking tomorrow afternoon?
W: That’s fine with me. But don’t push yourself too hard. I can always wait.
M: Tomorrow afternoon after four should be all right with me. 
How about us meeting at the café on the corner of Peter Street and William Street? We can talk over coffee, all right?
W: Good. That sounds great to me.
M: See you then.
W: Sure, take care and don’t work too hard.


Questions 14-17 are based on the following dialogue about Santa Catalina Island. 


W: Hi, Bob, how’s your vacation of Los Angeles?
M: OK. It was really wonderful, especially because I was so lucky to spend two days on Santa Catalina Island.
W: Santa Catalina Island? I’ve never heard of it before.
M: But you may have seen it. In the past nineteen years, Catalina has enjoyed a great popularity as a filming location.
W: Where is it?
M: About 35 km off Los Angeles’ coast. We took the high speed hurry to the harbor at Avalon. Avalon is Catalina’s main town.
W: What is it then?
M: It’s a small town replaced by thousands of people. It’s different from other beach cities in Los Angeles. 
There will be stories of many color ice cream stamps. Instead of carts, golf carts are the preferred means of transport in Avalon. Tourists all like them with cats in and outside the city.
W: What has made the major tourist in Catalina?
M: The airport in the sky. 
W: How did you learn to see all of them?
M: We took the classical tour. We’ll sure about the scenery in the 1953 flexible bus.
W: Sounds so interesting. I’ll include Catalina in my vacation plan next month.


Questions 18-21 are based on the following interview with a volleyball coach. 


W: How would you introduce volleyball?
M: I was once a high school man teacher and basketball coach. 
I never played volleyball before and I’ve seen it just once in my life. 
One day my school needed a lot of coaches for our girls’ team. 
I was one of the youngest teachers on stuff and the girls talked me helping coach volleyball. 
The girls they have were great and they began to start. A friend of mine was a volleyball player.
He taught me beginning and then taught me how to coach it.
W: What sports did you play in high school?
M: I played basketball, tennis and golf. I was not a volleyball player at all. 
I was pretty good at basketball. But then my real passion was gone. I played it every day.
W: When did you know you want to be a full-time volleyball coach?
M: It wouldn’t take very long. I’ve been coaching women’s basketball that I really love it. 
But when I saw an opportunity in women’s volleyball, because coaches were needed. 
In this way, I become a college coach immediately. 
I like coaching women’s volleyball at college very much because it seems to fit my personality.
Questions 22-25 are based on a conversation about the current movie industry. 
W: Movie box offices sales have been down almost 10 percent this summer. What happened?
M: Many things. Now they have more choices about how to spend their leisure time. 
DVD business certainly has effect on moviegoing and obviously we need better quality of films and more entertaining ones.
W: How about movie theaters?
M: Most theaters today should be made more comfortable and cleaner. 
I hate to see the theater with stuff of garbage. 
I also think they should be better food available so that people feel good and enjoy there.
W: I’ve heard some people complain that Hollywood releases too late films a year. What’s your opinion?
M: There are probably coming out on crowded days, in the summer and at Christmas time. 
But generally, there are films as we know. Well, personally, I think movies business today is still healthy and it’s a great business too. Ever since everybody feels pretty good.
W: If you want to relax yourself to watch a movie at home, what would be your choice?
M: If I have to pick one, I choose to see the god father and the god father part II. I think these two are great films of all time.
