I was sitting right in front of Juli Baker. This is where the sniffing comes in. That maniac started leaning forward and sniffing my hair.

I tried back-kicking, but she wouldn’t stop. She kept sniffing my hair.

And suddenly one day, the sniffing stops and the whispering starts. She found some spelling mistakes I made, and she started whispering the answers to me.

So I spent the sixth grade somewhere between happy and unhappy, happy that I got better scores in spelling tests, unhappy I had be sniffed.

I kept thinking that next year, next year, things would be different. We'd be in junior high — a big school — in different classes. It will be over at that time!
